VeraMaria
The Shoulder wound where he carred the cross It is related in the annals of Clairvaux that St. Bernard asked Our Lord which was His greatest unrecorded suffering and Our Lord answered: "I had on My Shoulder, while I bore My Cross on the Way of Sorrows, a grievous Wound, which was more painful than the others and which is not recorded by men. Honor this Wound with thy devotion and I will grant thee whatsoever thou dost ask through Its virtue and merit. And in regard to all those who shall venerate this Wound, I will remit to them all their venial sins and will no longer remember their mortal sins." http://olrl.org/pray/shwound.html
FaustinaVianney
I haven't seen the movie, but I agree with dUSt. The breaking of the flesh is pretty intense and after a while you adapt to the pain and I'm sure He was numb by the time the rest of it happened. thicke
Mayne it wasn't the physical that hurt the most. Betrayal and rejection, maybe? I agree it's the wounds we all have given him to the heart that probably hurt the most. :(
cathgirl
It's amazing how much He suffered for us. I can't think of one pain, physical or mental, that we can't somehow relate with Christ's Passion. I do have to agree with VeraMaria though. cimlog
By the time Christ is finally crucified, I imagine his body had already gone through so much, numbness had to have been setting in. I agree. But don't you think the time when the nails first broke flesh when he was being nailed to the cross was most painful physically? Through all of the pain he suffered I think that his body would be numb but would be awakened as the nails penetrated his hand. The pain probably served as a strong rememberance of what he was doing for us.
Dave
Let's not underestimate the wounds in his wrists. If Jesus was nailed by his wrists, then the nails would've gone through the median nerve (I think that's what it's called). It would've hurt so bad that it would've been like being on fire. It has been reported that if you so much as blow on a person who has injured their median nerve, they will scream abnormally!
tobk2000
also remember that they tore his clothes of of him.. like taking a band-aid off of a cut, but over his whole body... and the fact that he was completely naked there. That would have been terrible too... http://www.talltexian.com/TALLTEXIANsINSPIRATIONAL3/id27.htm
willguy
It has been reported that if you so much as blow on a person who has injured their median nerve, they will scream abnormally! Combine this with the fact that His skin was already sensitive from the blood vessels around His sweat glands bursting.
