willguy
I know and firmly support the Church's teachings on contraception and drugs that decrease the chance of conception. My question is, what is the Church's stance on drugs that increase the odds of conception (fertility drugs)? I ask because my mother is unable to concieve naturally, so she took fertility medications, and ... well... voila.
BLAZEr
You have to think of this like medicine. If a woman is healthy and her biological functions are normal, then she is fertile and producing eggs which can, with God's help, make a baby. If a woman's fertility is malfunctioning then it would ok to take some medicine (in this case, fertility drugs) to get it to work right. There is "no foul" in using fertility drugs to help you conceive. It would be innapropriate to use in vitro becasue this conception would happen outside of the marital act and the fertilized embryos that are not used are destroyed. On a side note, one of the reasons that Contraception is bad, and immoral is because it doesn't work like a medicine, but rather like a poison. It causes the body to act abnormaly. So, in a sense Contraception is the opposite of medicine.
