They got $1000.
and now she's bald?
Just a warning...those two could cause a lot of confusion.
I was wondering about that. I was going to suggest a rosary but then remembered blessed things shouldn't be sold and this would count as selling.

Old_Joe
We just did a Phone-a-thon at Newman and raised over $50,000. How about a dunking booth and raffle off tickets? Edited April 30, 2007 by Old_Joe

Although there could be legit debate over whether you can "buy" a Mass or simply request a Mass and also pay a priest for his time and service. The case could be made that one puts the liturgy on sale while the other simply helps to support the Church. Anyway, I'm not getting into that debate, I'm just saying it could be very confusing. franciscanheart
those are great! i'm trying to think of some Catholic stuff too, like: -a spiritual bouquet -a dedicated Mass (in memory of) what else?
hand-made rosaries and chaplets? ( http://www.beadsofmercy.com ) since you're considering the silent auction, i might suggest that you do it in conjunction with a coffee house type thing. we used to have those for our theater department and they were a total hit. we would play improv games for the audience, perform monologues, sing, dance, play all kinds of instruments, and recite poety - both from books and personal journals. you let everyone (from the dept/group) audition or sign up for something and also have them serve as the waitstaff when they aren't performing. you can have cheesecake, pumpkin cake, pound cake, cake, cake, cake, coffee cake, (are you getting this all down?), cake, cookies, brownies, cake, cake and cake donated from local shoppes on top of having the kids bring stuff in from home. a certain popular coffee house used to donate coffee to us for the night. then you can advertise for them to thank them. it's so much fun and would be a great accompaniment, i think, to your silent auction. (it's also really easy to coordinate.)

jmjtina
i soooooo need ideas beside the normal bake sales, coke drives, car wash etc......... especially since we are planning for NCYC. Father wants to actually head out to Chicago for a day to expose his poor parishoners and then head on out to Columbus. By the way, who knows how one should dress in November in Columbus? Am I going to need a huge parka? prose, get those ideas typed out!!!! Edited April 30, 2007 by jmjtina
franciscanheart
i know i've mentioned this before but we did dog/car washes when i was in youth group and they were a LOT of fun. adding the dogs to the mix made it interesting! and if you have music going while you do it (like we did when we were fundraising to buy stuff for Seussical), the kids can sing to it and be goofy and have fun. if they're having a blast, the people there have fun too. (they especially loved that we were singing stuff from the show we were saving for, but im sure it would have a similar effect with the youth group.) dinners are always good. you can theme it too. i think italian and mexican are pretty popular and are easy to prepare. you can charge per person or per couple and provide babysitting. all the cooking, waiting, and sitting is done by the kids. you can present a slideshow of pictures/video from youth group events/nights to show them what they're supporting and even have some of the kids write short speeches about why they love youth group. they of course would also thank the guests for coming and supporting them in their goal. its a good way to not only get people involved with the youth who would not normally be, but it also serves to raise money and further relationships in the group. (there's just something about the whole experience that brings you together.)
