Lil Red
i hate fundraising, but it's a necessity. does anyone have any fun ideas besides the bake sales, car washes, tshirt sales, jewelry sales?
Sojourner
I did a dinner theater once while I was director of fundraising for a non-profit. I know a church who did a similar thing only as a dessert event rather than a full-out dinner. They got people in the congregation to donate baked goods, then served them at the event. They usually were sold out, did several perforamances in a row.
Guest T-Bone
A no-dinner dinner. You sell tickets to a fund raising dinner that you're not going to have. (Not fraudulently. They people know there isn't going to be a dinner.)
Sojourner
We do raffles a lot at school ... get donations from people in the church or youth group and have a silent auction. Donations can include material items, or things like golf lessons, dinner with your priest, a batch of cookies, lessons in home-brewing beer, free babysitting, etc.
Lil Red
thanks tf and t-bone! i found some other raffle ideas - 'dinner for a week' (ask 7 local restaurants to donate a dinner for two, and raffle off). 'it's a girl thing' (ask a salon to donate services and raffle off). i like the lessons in home brewing beer - we have quite a few different microbrewery's here in town. Sojourner
yeah for our raffles lots of members of the community donate things they are good at. One woman donated a beautiful handmade baby blanket, others donated fresh cookies, and so on. It was cool not only because it raised money but also because it gave people a chance to see the variety of talents in our school community. Lil Red
i'm really liking the idea for a silent auction - what else could i try to get donated?
Sojourner
i'm really liking the idea for a silent auction - what else could i try to get donated?
OK here are some ideas: * 2 hours as mom's helper * An afternoon of yard/garden help * 1 hour of free consultation (provided by professionals in your parish, i.e., doctor, lawyer, accountant, nurse, landscaper, fashion guru, etc.) * Musical serenade by youth group members (I think this could be hilarious) * If you have any really great home-grown bands, a house concert with them would be cool * Dinner prepared in your home for 8 people * If any parishioners have a cool motorcycle or car, they could donate an hour-long ride on a nice day. This could also work if anyone is a pilot. * Solicit stuff from local businesses: gift certificates, movie passes, etc. * Bottles of wine * A painting by a local artist * Tickets to a concert or to a sporting event
Lil Red
those are great! i'm trying to think of some Catholic stuff too, like: -a spiritual bouquet -a dedicated Mass (in memory of) what else?
Megz
Our most sucessful youth group fundraiser was a dinner and a show. The kids reanacted the best youth group skits and voulenteers helped serve a simple pasta dinner. All the youth group was involved, and it was sold out as soon as it was announced the next year. Sojourner
hmm ... maybe you could get donations of items from your local Catholic bookstore. Or, I bet that someone like Christopher West or Scott Hahn would donate books/CDs/DVDs.
prose
We do a dinner theatre every year. It rocks.
prose
We sold singing telegrams at Valentine's Day once. It sucked. There was a lot of coordinating and we didn't make very much. Bottle Drives do well. I have TONNES of ideas. I will have to give you them later. Too lazy to type now.
Thy Geekdom Come
Actually, a friend of mine who hadn't cut her hair in 10 years just had a fundraiser...the more spare change raised, the more she'd chop. They got $1000.
