dUSt
We'll use this thread to discuss the first Introduction thru Meditation IX. So that we all stay on the same timeline, let's try to have this read by Feb 8th, so we can then move on to the first few chapters. Let's talk about what we're reading as we read it. I hope for as much participation as possible!

Guest BobofCNY
How about everyone's thought on the start of Meditation IV The Chalice used at the Last Supper, specifically the line: "The same has been in some degree the case in the Christian Church, where many consecrated jewels have been forgotten and fallen into disuse with time." I am thinking of today of how the Sacraments, to me the consecrated jewels, have fallen by the way side in my life. We should take out of the temple of Christ, which we are, the consecrated jewels of the Sacraments we have received and think about them like our Baptism, Confirmation, Marrige, or Orders and make use of the ones like Communion and Penance. Just my first take on this.
Pontifex
That is a great thought. I can't wait to read that today. Peace
Jake Huether
I'm in as far as I can read it at work. I'm reading The Lambs Supper at home. I will post my thoughts here as I go... Great idea dUSt.
Jake Huether
Okay, on the intro, I wish to point out the description the author gives of the difference between "private revelation" and Sacred Tradition / Scripture. I just thought that was very very important and extremly clearly conveyed.
Jake Huether
Man, you guys never said it was addicting. Shoot. I finished the first 30 pages at work (sssshhhhhhhh!). I'm going to read more now.
JuCa
Don't know if I'll add anything to the convo...but great idea! I'll be reading it with you all. Esp. since its online and I don't have to buy it Although this is one that would probably be a good book to add to the shelf...
Jake Huether
Well, I finished my homework. DONE! Now on to the Passion... Man, I'm totally addicted. Anyway. So, I must point out what stood out to me... Mary praying for Judas. That was a biggy. WOW! Also, that the Ark was in the same place as the Eucharist. And the Prophet Malachy who had prophecied about the Eucharist! Cool beans. I have to ask though. I was confused about pg 51 where it states "it is a feast no longer kept in the Church." What "feast" is she talking about?? It can't be the Eucharist. Is she refering to the other rituals?? Anyway. Okay. so Have a good night. Ahh. I can go to sleep now. LOL. What a wonderful book. I'm going to buy it when I get the $$.
Guest BobofCNY
Jake, Mary praying for Judas reflects the "Hail Mary", where we say "Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death." She even prayed for her son's betrayer, we should let us know she will always be our advocate.
jmjtina
Okay here are my WOW's. 1. In Med. III, they describe Saraphias house, where the disciples also made arrangements for the last supper. She had "been long connected with the Holy Family" and when Jesus was a Child, supplied him with food those three days he was in the temple. "The two Apostles took from thence, among other things, the chalice of which our Lord made use in the institution of the Holy Eucharist" Seraphia and Veronica make me think about the works of Mercy and how God can use us for His Will. 2. The Blessed Mother! Oh how loving a mother we have to pray for Judas! What striked me most was Ven. Anne's observation: "these good qualities were choked by avarice, ambition, envy, which passions he made no effort to control....even performed miracles and healed the sick." We must always fight temptation! I can't even imagine such a great love...."Our Divine Lord returned thanks.....and pressed her to His heart." or His love for US, giving his WHOLE self, "all that he had and all that he was." now that is something I'm gonna ponder. still not done.... this is amesome. Praise God.
Good Friday
Jake writes: I have to ask though. I was confused about pg 51 where it states "it is a feast no longer kept in the Church." What "feast" is she talking about?? It can't be the Eucharist. Is she refering to the other rituals?? Unless I'm incredibly misinformed, the Eucharist in the early Church used to be accompanied by a love feast, or agape. It was a meal, and during (or after?) the meal they received the Eucharist. But the agape stopped after a while, I'm pretty sure because of the abuses described by St. Paul: some eating too much and not sharing with others, etc. That may be the feast she's referring to, but I've no idea. I've not read that far yet. Father P? Am I way off?
IcePrincessKRS
I just started reading last night... I'll share my thought when I am further into it. I'm going to go take advantage of Adrienne's nap right now to read more. :)
IcePrincessKRS
I'm still reading, but this really struck me. In Meditation 6, right after Jesus inflicts the wound on the lamb, at the end of that paragraph it says "a new epoch and a new sacrifics were about to begin, which would last to the end of the world." Those words just screamed "THE SACRIFICE OF THE MASS!" to me. It is further inpressed into my mind because the supper-room was sectioned off like the Temple. I'm going to get back to reading..... :)
Jake Huether
Ack. I can't let go of this book! In 3 sittings, I'm half way done with the book. I don't want to ruin it for anyone, so I'll wait to comment. Alls I can say is... My God, I'm sorry!
