Do you ever post something up that isn't inflametory?

Honestly?
The Catechism of Pope St. Pius X:
32 Q. What should a Christian do who has been given a Bible by a Protestant or by an agent of the Protestants?
A. A Christian to whom a Bible has been offered by a Protestant or an agent of the Protestants should reject it with disgust, because it is forbidden by the Church. If it was accepted by inadvertence, it must be burnt as soon as possible or handed in to the Parish Priest.
As Americans we have the right to turn down receiving a Protestant Bible...Does that mean that these Christians should be punished for giving them out? No.
ugh. i'm sure the free condom man wouldn't be bothered!

not to mention those annoying porn/hooker/stripper ads they shove in your hands in vegas
I think this is an excellent point. I remember being 15 years old in Las Vegas and being handed one of those vulgar flyers. And countless youth are being given packets of condoms in high schools!! What is our culture coming to when a kid being handed garbage that promotes a destructive lifestyle is called "freedom of speech" and handing out Bibles is offensive!?!

Technically, footnotes aren't part of the Bible.

Anyway, folks, unless you want this thread closed, the thread needs to stay on topic. We will not be getting into Catholic vs. Catholic debate.

Anyway, I would never use a Gideon Bible, but I do understand why they publish NT by itself. I have a Douay-Rheims NT, too.

I'm guessing it's as someone said that they were stopped not for handing out bibles, but for violating the location or some such thing. Freedom to hand out religious materials (to adults and children with parental permission) needs to be protected.

I'm pretty sure the Gideon NTs have no footnotes. They're tiny.

You trying to help me out, to show that the Catholic Church did BAN and censor Bibles?
they may be harmful to the Faith.
Yeah they sure will be...and thats good!
Now, as Catholics we should support the Gideons in their case against Florida, because it is connected to our ability to hand out religious materials in front of abortion mills (and if deemed necessary, in front of public schools).
Yeah they lose their right to hand out religious material, so do you guys!

But getting back to the original topic....

My very third Bible (1st was a Catholic children's that I received as a tot, 2nd was a complete Bible that I received for my 1st Communion) was a Gideon.
I liked it because it was so very pocket-sized. ^_^

I am curious to see where the case goes...
it seems pretty lame going after a couple of Gideons.

Where is the ACLU?
Oh that's right - they hate God's Word.
This headline and story are misleading. These guys weren't arrested for handing out Bibles. It was where they were doing it that was objectionable. There are laws to protect schools, and they appear to have been in violation of those laws.

This smells like another case of misrepresentation of the facts by the Fundy press.
It is not clear exactly what was objectionable about it ... there aren't many news stories on it, and non (still online) from mainstream press. The stories I read seem to indicate that Florida's law prohibits people from being within 500 feet of school property unless they have prior approval and legitimate business. If the stories I read are accurate, these men got approval beforehand from both the sheriff and the school, but then several parents complained to the school about them.

Like I said, though, there is not much info online aside from the publications that clearly support these guys. Which may not be a bad thing to do, but I'd like to see the rest of the story.

Probably some secular humanists and atheists that didnt want their kids to get a Bible, which is a total SHAME.

the ACLU is a NWO front, pretends to be for free speech but works AGAINST IT.

I have to question whether a group would have been arrested for handing out "Why Sandy Has Two Mommies" under the same circumstances.
