Ianny01
Heylo everybody, Just wondering if a Sacrament of Confession without a prescribed penance and a forgotten Act of Contrition (I said it in prayer later and the priest didn't prompt me to say it then) is still valid. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Ian
cappie
Can. 959 In the sacrament of penance the faithful who confess their sins to a lawful minister, are sorry for those sins and have a purpose of amendment, receive from God, through the absolution given by that minister, forgiveness of sins they have committed after baptism, and at the same time they are reconciled with the Church, which by sinning they wounded. For a confession to be valid 1) you have to go to a lawful minister, 2) be sorry for your sins and have a firm purpose of amendment 3) receive absolution. The act of contrition and the penance while drawing on the grace of the sacrament are usual but the absence of these does not effect the validity of your confession
