Chiquitunga
On Catholic radio just now, they are saying that Little Audrey Santo is dying .. Her story and life have been so inspiring to my vocation ... She is also 23 .. I was hoping to visit her someday in Worcester .. There are several Eucharistic miracles in her little chapel .. They are saying this time her death is eminent .. God bless her! She'll go straight to Heaven! Edited April 13, 2007 by Margaret Clare

Mary-Kathryn
Margaret Clare, ~not to debate or take away from your thread or lovely caring thought here~ I am so very touched her life inspired your vocation, but Audrey is not really a "victim soul." She is a young woman who became profoundly disabled as the result of a near-fatal drowning accident at the age of 3. The only thing I could come up with is the old 2002 statement by the Bishop here: http://www.worcesterdiocese.org/audrey.html I want to say there is a more recent one but I may be in error. Sometimes parents seek to give meaning to their children's disabilities [as a mom of a special needs adult, I well know this] I can't even begin to imagine having had a "normal" child who suddenly became this disabled. It must have been horrendous. I am not judging the parents, I'm simply saying their hearts led them to believe what they needed to, for that moment and that time. As the Bishop emphatically stated, I will pray for Audrey and be careful not to pray to her. I hope her death is a peaceful one in the arms of Jesus and Mary. God Bless you for having such a tender heart for the the disabled of this world! It's good to know God gives very special vocations to hearts like yours. I will pray for Audrey and keep us posted if you hear more!
Chiquitunga
Actually, yes, you're right that the Church has not said she is a "victim soul". But I don't believe the Church ever gives people this title at all, definitely not to those alive, but not even to the saints, I don't think. I believe it's just that the Church can declare someone a "saint" "blessed" etc. I did read the bishop's statement in 2002 before. Yes, the Church is always very careful on things like this, and should be; it is Her duty to safeguard the Faith. Yes, definitely we do not pray "to her" as we cannot pray to anyone on earth like this, only the saints in Heaven - though we can ask her to pray for us, and we should definitely also pray for her. When they were speaking of her yesterday on Relevant Radio, they did refer to her as a victim soul. In this tape, Audrey's Life, she is also referred to as a victim soul. One example the documentary gives of why she is referred to as this is, during Lent and Holy Week between the hours of 12 and 3pm she would suddenly go into painful convulsions, and she would even cry. The doctors could not explain why this would happen, and why at that particular time. But definitely her mother does not refer to her as this in this documentary. Her mother is a totally ordinary and down to earth person. If you see this tape, you'll get what I mean, really. She says in this tape that the greatest miracle, the greatest gift here that all parents have to remember is that "God has given you a child" ... I first ran into this tape when I was visiting the Buffalo Carmelites, who have it in their guesthouse along with a few other solid Catholic tapes, mostly from EWTN. I knew of her before this, but hadn't seen this tape. The Worcester Diocese gave permission for the Blessed Sacrament to be preservered in her little chapel, made out of their former garage, and in her room. Five Hosts have bleed during Holy Mass in the little chapel, which are preserved there for adoration now. The first of the five bleeding Hosts took place in the hands of Bishop Flanagan in 1992. http://www.littleaudreysanto.org/Lttle_Audrey_Fact_Sheet.htm Tests were done, and the blood was found to be real human blood. I wonder if the Hosts will now be placed in a church somewhere ... But yes, you're right that we cannot officially call her a "victim soul" that is true. I really think that in the end, this is something between God and the soul, and something we can only know in Heaven ... I have not heard more on whether she has died yet or not .. but I will post it here. They may also post it on the board on her site: http://www.littleaudreysanto.org/ Edited April 14, 2007 by Margaret Clare
