bonoducchi Posted April 16, 2007 Share Posted April 16, 2007 In the Sacrament of Penance, the very minimum for validity is true contrition and the formula of absolution administered by a valid minister with faculties. Everything else, while laudilby adding to the healing nature of the sacrament, is not required. The same would be true in baptism. It requires consent and the trinitarian formula. If the preist omits the prayer of exorcism, for example, it is still a valid baptism. However, in confirmation, if one was to omit the use of chrism, then you have a valid question of validity because that begins to tread of issues of form and matter.
