The thread about Mt. St. Mary's Abbey reminded me that one of their daughter houses, Our Lady of the Mississippi Monastery, will be featured in a 4 part series on The Learning Channel beginning Easter Sunday April 8. The posted time is 2 p.m., but I forget if that's Eastern or Central Time.

if this show is half as good as the one done on the Monks, it should be outstanding. I cant wait! Kindly remind us closer to the day, I would surely hate to miss this.

Thanks for letting us know! Originally, they had contacted our community but we said no. They just couldn't understand why we wouldn't want this!
Fr. Christian at Christ in the Desert said that it went very well for them and the filiming crew went out of their way to be respectful, etc. I didn't see the series because we don't want TV but I will ask if we are going to tape it and watch it some recreation. It's always fun to see what the "neighbors" do!

I hope that they show the finale this time! It gets really frustrating when you are watching a show and you don't find out how it ends!

My Mom is making my family watch it. :lol_roll: They are going to be so happy with the visiting rules of the Sisters of Reparation after they see the Trappisitines. Fun aside, I'm praying they get a glimpse of understanding of the day to day normalcy of life lived in community. And an understaning of the true family that a healthy community is.

Really? Have they had more vocations?

Well, they certainly have had lots of interest expressed in their community. There are 8 men, 4 americans and 4 east asians, who will be trying their vocation with the community this year.

Buckfast were approached about the UK series but they also said no (which I was secretly pretty pleased about). It worked at Worth but just wasn't for Buckfast, so they were wise to decline, I think. It's not for every house, which is something the producers don't always seem to cotton on to sometimes.

A Yearning Heart

There will be a 3 part series following 5 women living in an abbey for 33 days based in Australia (Jamberoo Abbey?). The series is called The Abbey. No air date is yet see though they did filming for it last year so it should be sometime in 2007. Keep an eye out at http://www.abc.net.au/tv/theabbey/ for more info.
