Gambling

The Catholic Church teaches that gambling in and of itself isn't wrong, but excessive gambling is. So why do many Protestants claim that gambling in and of itself is wrong? Where does it say that in the Bible?

my guess would be that because an excess involves a possible loss of money, which could've gone to those who don't have any instead of your enjoyment. if you spend 20 bucks on a fun night of entertainment or 20 bucks on a night of gambling, then that's pretty much even. but, if you spend 4,000 on one night on the town, or something to that effect, and 4,000 at one night at the casino, you can see the stupidity of a decision like this...

Dave,

Many protestants associate gambling with other things such as crime, drinking, debt and prostitution. This association makes gambling look bad.

Why the heck anyone would want to fund the mob is beyond me. Gambling is the "stupid tax" as dupped by Dave Ramsy, and rightly so. Playing poker with chips or pretzels with friends is one thing, but to throw your money away is S-T-U-P-I-D.

TOO MANY MOVIES!!!

yeah, go find out how much money your state schools get from gambling. then find out how much money is spent on gambling. then find out how much it costs for administrative fees, prize payouts, payouts to indian foundations and organizations. You figure out where the rest of it goes.

I don't remember what state it was, but i remember reading about it. In the last year one of our great states allowed gambling for the funds for schooling. In the first year they spent more money on help for gambling addiction than they've earned.
