Maybe we could eat Polish food. John Paul II loved his Polish heritage and indentity. Too bad I gave up sausage for Lent, or else I would try to eat some kielbasa! We could do some reading/praying on Divine Mercy, which he was very fond of. Or go skiing or play soccer... Or kiss the soil or a baby's forehead...

A Nazi invasion, a Soviet invasion, the fall of communism in Europe - he was there through all of it. Despite this, losing his entire immediate family by the time he was in his early twenties, and all of his ailments he was one of the happiest people I have ever seen. An amazing, holy man. If you want to see what the hand of God can do in (and with) the life of his faithful servants, look at him. I wish I had appreciated his presence more when he was alive. The wonderful shockwaves of his pontificate are still yet to be fully felt. Think of his efforts with youth over the years - they are all still young and it will be great when they become leaders in the Church.
I thought of that too... but I'm afraid I have NO idea how to cook Polish! Maybe next year!

As much as I believe he is in heaven, STM is right in saying that we can't assume. What we can and should do is hope and pray with joyful anticipation. :)

Now that's fun at parties.

Yes yes! Even on the off-chance that John Paul is not already enjoying God, we should offer fervent prayers for his soul. And even if he himself doesn't need them, no prayer is wasted ^_^

I actually asked the wine bringer if they even made Polish wine (Poles, forgive my ignorance -I LOVE Poland!)... I think we should if they do!

Ciao Amici,

Feast April 2, 2007 in honor of the Holy Father. A nice dinner at my house, drink some good Italian wine, watch a little of "A Witness to Hope" (Weigel's biography of HHJPII), and offer up some prayers through the intercession of John Paul for our world and particular issues in contemporary society to which he spoke. Overall, it would be a night to remember his love and celebrate the Communion of Saints. Most of us were actually there at the time of his death, so the conversation should be interesting, as well. I have invited Father Cozzens and Father Erickson -it is very much in the spirit of John Paul II, after all, to hang-out with some young lay-people!

JPII Pray for us!

Father Andrew Cozzens???!?!?!?!? I love that man!!! :)

Hey I would come, but I am in the southeast region for school. :(

I love the idea in bold! ^_^

I, too, wish that I had appreciated him more while he was alive. I hadn't come back to the Church yet when he passed away, but he has still helped me, even without being here physically.
