Budge
Star dont get so bent out of shape. Im a fundie Christian, you think Im going to be pro-convent? Actually I have admitted in this thread I can see why the life appeals. Problem is false religion is taught along with it. I think Christians need more community not less, so that is ONE thing they got going for them, I think that part is POSITIVE. Star, I used to meditate and do "contemplative" actually I called it CENTERING prayer. UUs become masters of it. I have studied your mystics, saints and taken part in Catholic retreats as a young person. There is no difference between the techniques used. I do believe I am in possession of the truth. This doesnt mean I think I know everything but I stand by my beliefs, Im no waverer. You may think that makes me a bad person but I stand on Gods Word. I have Gods Bible for truth. Actually Im not talking about a word being used a few times like HOLY HOLY HOLY is his name! but someting like the rosary where the same lines are repeated over a dozen times. hoosieranna
Budge, In response to yor question about dowries: the Poor Clares and Benedictines do not require a dowry. Actually the only mention of a required dowry I've seen was made by a sedevacantist congregation, the Daughters of Mary. I don't know about any other orders. I got the information from monastery websites.

I mean, it'll buy her a plane ticket back to her family or something. And "required" is more like "suggested," I've never heard of anybody not being admitted to a convent or monastery because they couldn't bring a "dowry."
I still think those are some of most beautiful pictures I have ever seen.
Many of those young nuns are very nice looking young ladies and one can see the shine of idealism in their eyes, which definitely is a POSTIVE attribute of the young. HeavenlyCalling
Budge, you have still not mentioned what you thought of the Sisters of Mary video. I would very much like to hear your thoughts on this On the dowry, some places sugesst it, but I have never heard of anyone being turned down because of it. Budge
Ok I watched it. Nice young girls, all very idealistic, and the positive idea of a close knit community {something so lacking in this society and one postive attribute they got going} comes through, but it didnt change my mind, why? Because I believe Catholicism is a false religion and these young girls are going to be brought deeper into it, they arent excactly going to be meeting street preachers in the convent and being handed gospel tracts. Also the whole convent is based upon what I believe is idolatry--the perpetual adoration. All those young women, may be the most sincerest, kindness, most well intentioned girls, but it doesnt change these Biblical realities. In fact seeing nice women being led into these deceptions deeper just worries me. I had my cradle Catholic years the few back in but most of my young adulthood was spent in the UU, years I could have spent preaching the Christian gospel and working on behalf of God. I wasnt a Christian until my early 30s. My worry for them is that they are going to be held even FURTHER AWAY from the true gospel.

Budge
false prophecies? I wasnt prophesizing. Some very well could have a Chrstian preach the gospel to them. http://www.jesus-is-savior.com/how_to_be_saved.html With Gods grace, even those in utter darkness can be reached. Most young women joining the convent from what I see here, and what I saw on that video, are GOOD, and very nice wonderful people but they are NOT being given God's truth. Im sorry that offends you but that is the way it is.

KnightofChrist
yes... you have plenty of time to post the falsehoods but never to answer to the truths against those falsehoods you post and boast.
