Lil Red
I cuss. I cuss proudly. I'm Catholic, I cuss, I dance, I drink, and still I have the hope of salvation. yup!
BLAZEr
just to throw about my .2 cents in as Catholics we are called to be charitable and part of that is respecting other people and not subjecting them to language that could possible offend them (that does not apply to the content of what you have to say i.e. temper your wording not your message) however to imply that someone's word choice makes them less of a person is nothing more than an attempt to manipulate them by offending them. My Mary "worship" offends some people, should I avoid that too, to be charitable?
dUSt
My Mary "worship" offends some people, should I avoid that too, to be charitable? Yes. Avoid worshiping Mary. It not only offends me, but would offend her as well. My question still remains... Who, out of the ones condoning bad language, would swear while kneeling in front of the tabernacle? hyperdulia again
We do worship Mary...English is a screwy language it only has one word readily recognisable as worship.
NewReformation
I'd go even farther with that Dust. Since we, as Christians, are the Temple of the Holy Ghost, and we are bought with a price(Christ's blood), and we have the Holy Spirit indwelling us, should we cuss? If God were physically in front of you, would you use profanity in His Holy presence? If not, why do it when He is Spiritually indwelling you? Sammy Blaze
I try very hard not to cuss, although i do sometimes, I'm human....but I just think The mouth I speak the Good News from, the mouth I lector from, is the same mouth I use to rock the mic with in His name, and it's the same mouth I receive Him in the Eucharist.......... It SHOULD NOT BE the same mouth that speaks profanity........ ~S.
God Conquers
This is true. We should do our best to avoid words which scandalize anyone (excluding faith based ones). We are called to be an example of Christ. As Christians we represent Him. Does Jesus cuss? Should we?
CatholicAndFanatical
Do you kiss your mamma wit dat mouth?? I very rarely cuss unless im realy PO'd. I honestly feel..eechk..when I do it alot. My favorite words...GOOD GRAVY!! I got that from Dilbert, yea were both geeks but so what, its better than saying other stuff and offending God. And I would venture to say it offends God when we cuss, especially if it offends other people around us.
Mateo el Feo
same here Paladin. I am going to try to work on my language during Lent. A related funny story: My priest sometimes asks the kids at church what they'll be giving up for Lent. Some say chocolate, or TV, and a few kids say, "Father, I'm giving up cussing." To which he replies, "I wouldn't want to hear you on Easter morning!" PS--I used to give up cussing for Lent when I was a kid...
