Introduction To The Book Society

Simply put, this is the section that will help us all grow in our faith, by reading and discussing books together.

Each week we will discuss a specific chapter of a specific book.

Fr Pontifex (the resident priest of phatmass) has committed to participating in this section with all of us. We would like to get as many people to participate as possible. We want everyone's input and feedback. "Theological flexing" will be discouraged. haha

Stay tuned for more details, and feel free to use this thread to make some suggestions on what book we'll read first. To begin, it should be something easily available at any bookstore, so we can get started as soon as possible.

This will help me to commit to do some valuable reading. I hope everyone will use this as an excuse to get to reading too!

Oh--by the way. Only I can start topics in here (to maintain order), but everyone can reply.

I just wanna say i think this is a really cool idea, i myself need inscentive to read and this offers a great reason. Plus i think it will help to make knowledge about the faith more available to us younger people. I think it will help those of us who want to learn more find sources to study...if that makes any sence.

Peace

To start, we'll probably begin with books that can be found anywhere, like St Augustine's Confessions, CS Lewis' Mere Christianity, etc.

Later, we'll probably read books requiring some of us to order online. I'm hoping we can stick to books that can be found in libraries, so for those of us short on change can simply check them out instead of buying them.

This is Fr Pontifex's idea, so let's give him some props. I think it'll be great, especially if we can get a lot of people to participate.

This is cool... sounds like some of the books we'd be reading I used to own... grrrr... until that fateful day when my huge box of books disappeared from the storeroom at college.... <_< Guess I'll have to find a way to get my hands on copies of them again. :)
