Dave
There is the question of truth, which is the foundation of the Church which Jesus Christ founded: 1. Truth is ONE and it is a person, the person of Jesus Christ. There can be only ONE truth. He said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life." John 14:6 If that is the case, then all of those tens of thousands of ecclesial communities should be teaching the same things and thus there would be only one church. How then, can anyone explain the tens of thousands of splits in the one truth of the one Body of Christ which exist today? 2. There is only one GOD, one Father, one Savior, one Holy Spirit, one Body of Christ, one Baptism, and one Faith. See Ephesians 4:1-6 "One faith" means that everyone is of one mind and thought, as Holy Scripture teaches us. In other words, one Church. See Romans 15:5-6. 3. What is the "Pillar and the Foundation of truth"? See 1 Timothy 3:15 for the answer. All it takes to find the truth is a little common sense, but then, where is common sense today? Circle_Master
amen. where is the common sense today. 4. The gospel is "the good news about Jesus" (Acts 8:35) so where is the common sense today, why is there so much confusion.
Dave
amen. where is the common sense today. 4. You're wrong. St. Francis of Assisi, who was Catholic (gasp!), said, "Preach the Gospel, and when necessary, use words!"
Truth
There is the question of truth, which is the foundation of the Church which Jesus Christ founded: 1. 1. Truth is ONE and it is a person, the person of Jesus Christ. There can be only ONE truth. 1A) This is true and I agree with it totally. 2. There is only one GOD, one Father, one Savior, one Holy Spirit, one Body of Christ, one Baptism, and one Faith. See Ephesians 4:1-6 2A) That is also true. But are you trying to make a case for Peter again, because if you are correct Jesus only need one Apostle not 12, 13 or 14, just Peter. You also used Romans 15:5-6, but you forgot 15:4----- 4For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. FAITH Must have forgot to include oral tradition here. 3. What is the "Pillar and the Foundation of truth"? See 1 Timothy 3:15 for the answer. 3A) See this is Paul talking to a Church, you should have included 1 Tim 5 17:21 and see if you could find the pope, bishop or priest. The head of the church were elders, but that Scriptures. Your point was that there was one church, but in Rev Christ instructed 7, did Peter start them too? --------------------------------------------------------- Excerpted from Compton's Interactive Bible NIV Copyright © 1994, 1995, 1996 SoftKey Multimedia Inc. Dave
2A) That is also true. You also used Romans 15:5-6, but you forgot 15:4----- 4For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. FAITH Must have forgot to include oral tradition here. That verse does not give Scripture authority; "endurance, encouragement' does not mean authority. We see Christ saying to "tell the Church" (Matt 18:17). Also, the Scriptures spoken of here are the Scriptures of the OT, not the NT. Things were written to teach us, but we also see in the Scriptures that private interpretation is wrong (2 Peter 1:20, 2 Peter 3:16, Acts 8:30-35). When looked at in the light of everything else in the NT, we see that the verse does not mean Sola Scriptura. We cannot build our faith on one verse here or one verse there; we must look at all the verses that speak of the topic and then try to grasp the understanding. 3A) See this is Paul talking to a Church, you should have included 1 Tim 5 17:21 and see if you could find the pope, bishop or priest. Peter was still head of the apostles, who, after all, were the first bishops. Also, elders=priests. These churches weren't churches of different denominations; they were all part of the one true Church, which is the Catholic Church.
