BLAZEr
Blazer I take personal offense to your post. I tend to cuss like a sailor when I'm mad and I'll drink most people under the table when I have no responsibilities to attend to (like when the child is under the care of someone else). The scrunching/folding thing was disgusting on a whole new level but if you want to talk about your excrement habits - go right ahead. I don't believe that everything needs to be straight from the gospels - in fact I question that too much for my own good. EVIL IS LURKING AROUND EVERY CORNER AND IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE THAT THEN YOU ARE A FOOL. And I seriously doubt I could be confused about any of this considering my past, but thanks for implying so. No personal offense was intended. Evil isn't lurking around every corner, it's right there in your own heart. You don't have to be afraid of the devil behind Harry Potter, you've got bigger fish to fry with the devil manifesting himself in your own life. When I was a kid I read LOTR and that in turn introduced me to a world of wizards and magic (admit it, if you're a boy, Gandalf is the coolest character). Very soon I was reading books about magic and spells and very wicked things. My mother found the books and had a talk with me. Case closed. Was LOTR evil?? Of course not. Could Harry prodcue the same effect? Sure. Is it evil because of it? Nope. I've also heard the arguments about Harry encouraging lying and rule breaking if its to your benefit . . . anyone who has ever read a childrens books sees the same patterns in everything from Hank the Cowdog to Amelia Badelia and Harriet the Spy. Harry Potter may not explicitly lead children to believe in God. However, certainly one could argue that it leads them to distinguish between Good and Evil, and that, IMHO is a very good start. I wasn't implying that if you are against Harry Potter then you are necessarily a prude who won't drink or cuss. However, I was suggesting that the loathing of Harry Potter finds its roots in the same mentality, in my opinion.
Don John of Austria
Blazer now you must understand when I say this I am extremely well aquianted with this Topic and I have no fear of fantasy, I love the Lord of the Rings and many other Fantasies and I Play D&D every Saturday night. On the other hand I have also witnessed the Occult destroy families and live including those of my own relatives, I have come face to whatever( it didn't have a dicernable face) ( and yes I know exactly what I am saying) with the Physical manifistation of a demon. I am fully aware that of the proper role of Fantasy and alagory both in the Culture and even of the Faith, but Harry Potter is not Fantasy it is neo pagan pro--witch propoganda, It uses REAL occult referances and denegrates those who do not have magical powers or believe in Witchcraft. Harry Potter is evil because it is both insidious and directly supporting occult practices, which occur in the real world. The Heros are participatory in these Occult Pratices and they live notin a Fantastical world but right here among us muggels( sp.).
BLAZEr
don John, I too have familiarity with the occult and with Pagan witch practices. One of my very dear friends is a nun and a former High priestess in Wicca. She and Fr. Mitch Pacwa (another expert on the occult) and I had a long talk on this topic. I used to be weary of Harry Potter because of some of what I had read. They both convinced me of two things: A.) the magic used in Harry Potter is entirely fictional and not based in real black magic or wicca and B.) the fantasy of Harry Potter is firmly rooted in the Christian tradition. Mainly through their influence and naturally my own thought I came to have an opinion of Harry Potter that was good. I liked the books when I first read them, and in myself didn't quite feel like that hubub was coherent with my experience. Sr. Teresa Angela and Fr. Mitch helped to reassure me of this fact. Don't take this the wrong way but on both counts they are WRONG. The magic in Harry Potter does certianly have it's roots in real wicca, and it has nothing to do with the Christian Tradition. Agian I have a great deal of experiance in this matter and so I just am going to tell you out right that what they are telling you is not true. End of story. BLAZEr
Honestly Don, here is where you and I have to agree to not agree Their opinions, partly because they are born out of personal relationship, are more valuable to me. I'm sure you can understand that. I don't think they are trying to deceive me, and I don't think they are being deceived. Other than that, I'm not sure what to say. IcePrincessKRS
Tack me on with the Non-Harry Potter-ers. I need not say any more because they've all covered all of what I would have said.
Kilroy the Ninja
Frankly Blazer it's your blatant disregard for the evil that's in front of your face that scares me more than the evil in my heart. And again, thanks for implying I'm evil.

BLAZEr
Woah! Chill. I'm not implying you are evil. I disagree on the Harry thing. Relax. I'm gonna continue reading the books. My spiritual director, me, Fr. Mitch Pacwa and Mother Teresa Angela must all be blind to the evil right in front of our eyes. Peace. Seriously, peace. If you ment it in a general way the proper term would have been "ones heart and ones life" your heart is a direct address to kilroy, she was some what upset. M.SIGGA
Eh, it's been said already, but I'm a Harry fan purely for the entertainment value. The one aspect of the stories that I don't like which discredits this movie from being a modern day epic is that the main hero is a liar and he is rewarded instead of punished for his wrongdoings = bad example for kids. The "occult factor" is silly and good parenting would teach kids what is fake and what is true. What about all the classic disney movies; there is technically some occult stuff in there too? All fantasy has some aspects of "good witch - bad witch" like Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Wizard of Oz, and Sleeping Beauty, etc...
