You know, I'm not a big fan of Barack either, but I think there are enough REAL things to not be happy about that I don't need to make up things.

I'm not so worried about that.

What I'm worried about is that he's a talking suit with a winning smile who has nothing to offer except platitudes and whose opinions only reflect what he thinks will get him the most power.

I haven't read enough about him to know if that's entirely true, mind--but it's what I'm afraid of.

I am a Roman Catholic. I am a registered Republican. I am pro-life.

Barak Hussein Obama is none of those things; however, I have to say that I find myself drawn to him as a candidate. He is young, charismatic and intelligent. Read his 2 books and you'll find yourself nodding your head in approval more often than not. And, like it or not, his stance on Iraq--firmly opposed to it to begin with, even more firmly opposed to a troop surge-- is a non-issue because the next president of our country will be taking us out of there anyway.

When you look at the political landscape that is the 2008 presidential election, you see that there will not be much to choose from in terms of pro-life candidates. While it's true that Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas is running (and will get my vote in my state's primaries), most news outlets and political analysts agree that it will probably be some combination of Obama/Hillary vs McCain/Giuliani. And, sadly, none of those 4 people are pro-life. Furthermore, they are all pro-gay marriage as well.

So what are we to do as Catholics, called to vote with our morals in the forefront of our decisions? I believe that we should vote on the person who can take our country in the best direction, despite our disagreements with some of the candidates' views. And, speaking personally, I would never vote for Hillary Clinton, I would have a hard-time casting a conscientious-vote for Giuliani, and I happen to believe that McCain is a) too old and b) too unreliable in his views (he's what my dad and I call a R.I.N.O--a Republican In Name Only). And, if circumstances play out in the way that most people believe they will, that leaves me with two choices: vote for Obama, or don't vote at all.

You may not agree with what he has to say, but you cannot deny that his rise to presidential candidacy has been meteoric to say the least. I encourage you to research this guy a bit, get a hold of one or both of his books, and let yourself be engaged by a politician who, for once, has a cohesive thought rather than a plate full of ideologically-driven talking-points.

P.S.- Whoever said he was a Muslim "masquerading as a Christian" so that he can become President and "fly a Muslim flag" over the White House is ignorant beyond words. If you don't like a candidate...say so. Don't make outlandish, insipid assertions that make no sense.

P.P.S.- I didn't know there was a Muslim flag anyway!

Obama would be as bad as if not WORSE than hilary.

He is not only pro-choice. He is a rediculous baby-killer. He's been criticized (though lightly) by NARAL because he was more anti-baby than even them.

Can you substantiate any of these claims? Links to statements, etc.? And what exactly has Bush done that is so great?

Obama is 100% pro-abortion.
There are also many sites who point out all the lies in his books.

Newspeople are acting like its the Second Coming or something when they describe him. blah

Maybe when he grows up and has some experience, we can judge him better,
but certainly not now.

His inexperience is a legitimate concern of mine and most other people.

I understand that he is pro-abortion. It is the only thing that is holding me back from casting my full support to him. But look at Giuliani and McCain....they're both pro-abortion as well. So what if they're not "100% pro-abortion?" Where is the line the delineates how much support for abortion is allowed before we will not vote for a candidate?
