stargirl3:16
All right, I know there are people here who like Broadway musicals. This is the place to discuss our favorites and give opinions on any upcoming shows. So, some of my favorites: Rent Spamalot Cats Phantom of the Opera Joseph Godspell I also downloaded the soundtracks for Into the Woods and Pippin, but I haven't listened to them yet. Who else likes musicals?

I wouldn't lie to you. Some I like: Flower Drum Song Brooklyn Godspell Rent Into the Woods Cats Guys and Dolls A Chorus Line Joseph Sweeney Todd A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum Hairspray Avenue Q Wicked Les Mis Mama Mia I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change (though a bit risque at times) and of course there are many more that could go on this list. These are some that I could think of off the top of my head. My favorites? Rent and Into the Woods I think the one show that stands out in my mind that I absolutely disliked was Once Upon A Matress... it could have been the particular cast I saw but it was horrid. We left at intermission.
aalpha1989
honestly? I don't really see why people like rent....i could barely watch it (Actually i didnt even get through it)....the subject matter really didn't help, and i didnt like the music either. i guess i'm more of a classical kinda guy....like phantom of teh opera and les mis....but yeah i don't really see much quality in rent at all.... [/quote] so? thats the same thing they say about brokeback mountain....its not really about love, because if they truly loved each other they wouldn't engage in homosexual behavior....they would find the best way to get the other people to heaven because that is true love...so its not really about love....it IS about humans friendship life and death though, but idk about the gift that we are to one another, they weren't really good gifts to each other.... Birgitta Noel
Mmm, I saw lots of love in RENT that wasn't of a homosexual nature. There was a great deal of love between the friends. Isn't it the case that we can have love, but express it in a disordered fashion? Anyhow, this isn't a RENT debate thread, sorry to turn it into one. There is one of those somewhere on this board I believe. Edited February 5, 2007 by The Little Way
stargirl3:16
~A quick public service announcement~ I figured I should address this before it becomes a raging beast. This is a discussion thread, not a debate thread. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion; please use charity when discussing musicals in this thread. If you feel the need to debate with someone, please take it to more private channels. Thank you. ~end of PSA~ Dang, I almost forgot Wicked and Avenue Q! Sheesh, what is wrong with me? Birgitta Noel
Wicked rocks! Though I have a good friend who refuses to see it because it's about evil. Again, my apologies, I didn't mean to enter into the debate, I should have stopped before I posted in response. LOL, and Avenue Q, I haven't seen it, but I love the song, "It smells of elderberries to be me"! I used to have a theory that someone always died in musicals, but I had a skewed sample size. There are a large number in which someone does though, even in the Disney ones. Ummm how about Whistle Down the Wind, AL Webber, anyone familiar? Birgitta Noel
One of my fav songs from Wicked. It made me cry as it reminded me of one of my very dearest friends who was sitting just a seat away. Artist: Kristin Chenoweth Song: For Good ELPHABA I'm limited: Just look at me - I'm limited And just look at you - You can do all I couldn't do, Glinda So now it's up to you (spoken) For both of us (sung) Now it's up to you: GLINDA I've heard it said That people come into our lives for a reason Bringing something we must learn And we are led To those who help us most to grow If we let them And we help them in return Well, I don't know if I believe that's true But I know I'm who I am today Because I knew you: Like a comet pulled from orbit As it passes a sun Like a stream that meets a boulder Halfway through the wood Who can say if I've been changed for the better? But because I knew you I have been changed for good ELPHABA It well may be That we will never meet again In this lifetime So let me say before we part So much of me Is made of what I learned from you You'll be with me Like a handprint on my heart And now whatever way our stories end I know you have re-written mine By being my friend: Like a ship blown from its mooring By a wind off the sea Like a seed dropped by a skybird In a distant wood Who can say if I've been changed for the better? But because I knew you: GLINDA Because I knew you: BOTHI have been changed for good ELPHABA And just to clear the air I ask forgiveness For the things I've done you blame me for GLINDA But then, I guess we know There's blame to share BOTH And none of it seems to matter anymore GLINDA & ELPHABA Like a comet pulled Like a ship blown From orbit as it Off it's mooring Passes a sun, like By a wind off the A stream that meets Sea, like a seed A boulder, half-way Dropped by a Through the wood Bird in the wood BOTH Who can say if I've been changed for the better? I do believe I have been changed for the better? GLINDA And because I knew you: ELPHABA Because I knew you: BOTH Because I knew you: I have been changed for good.
