Catholic Retreat Centers

Can any of you recommend any good retreat centers, and ones that are orthodox? also ones with a lot of adoration? I know of several orders that have retreats centers, like the Srs of Bethlehem (though they cannot accept retreatants until March 15, because of the snow) and the Srs of St. John in Peoria. But can you guys recommend any others, and they don't have to be in the Midwest, though that would be preferable. But any place that is orthodox and pretty traditional, at least. Thanks!

I guess maybe this post doesn't really belong so much in VS, but it's for a place to go to really discern your vocation, but not to go to a particular monastery, and talk with the Mother, etc, but simply for a silent retreat.

It's in Birmingham, Alabama. It's very orthodox and they offer weekend retreats (Friday night - Sunday afternoon).

At the Visitation Monastery in Mobile, AL you can arrange a silent "desert experience" retreat inside the cloister. The sisters will not speak to you if you request, but I believe spiritual direction is available. The IVE Family (Institute of the Incarnate Word) offer weekend silent retreats using St. Ignatius of Loyola's spiritual exercises. (This is the group that the Sisters of the Lord and the Virgin of Matara belong to). I'm hoping to go on one on president's day weekend.

Thanks to everyone for posting great suggestions. I found out the Passionist Nuns in Whitesville also have a retreat center - [url="http://www.passionistnuns.org/"]http://www.passionistnuns.org/[/url] I called them today actually. I can only take the greyhound bus to Evansville, IN, but the sister said they have someone who can come pick people up and take them to Whitesville.

However, I was thinking of [url="http://www.marytown.com/"]Marytown[/url] here in my area for a while, but I knew the ceiling collapsed in their beautiful old perpetual adoration chapel last Septmber. However, I called today and they said they still offer retreats and have the adoration, and daily Masses and everything, so I'm seriously thinking of staying there for a time to pray. The location is really great for me. Thanks again to everyone for your help.

Also I wanted to post here, for future reference for anyone that the [url="http://www.pressenter.com/~carmelit/"]OCarm cloisterd Carmelites[/url] in WI offer a place to stay for people to come on retreat too. :j

I kept looking for a catch (like seeing [i]yoga retreat[/i] on their schedule or something But they look really orthodox! Praise God!

This is a really wise idea. You are very smart to be looking for an opportunity to just [i]pray[/i], aside from prayer while discerning at particular monastery. You are really blessed to live in an area where things like this are available on a live-in basis to make it a retreat

[/quote] Hey, thanks! Yeah, actually I did see that link and went through pretty much all of the places. No it's not too late. I haven't made this desired retreat just yet.

I'm deciding between Marytown and the Passionist Nuns in Whitesville, KY. It's $70 a night at Marytown and $50 a night at Whitesville, though for that one, there's the bus fare too. I'm just thinking I might like to stay at the Passionist Monastery instead because it's really in a monastic setting, even though it'll take an 11 hour bus ride to get there (but I'm very used to that! I've gone to NY many many times on Amtrak, 20somethinghrs, and then also on greyhound (I do not recommend greyhound for that long of a trip though! It said on the schedule, no transfers, but did not include that throughout the trip you have to get out of the bus several times, in the middle of the night/early morning, for them to service the bus ... ... ... ) - but yeah, ever since 9/11 I rather try to avoid flying, though I have since then a few times ..

But Marytown is great too. I do know that they are still having the perpetual adoration in a conference room with Mass, since the ceiling fell in the old chapel last September ...

Thanks again, EJames for the link! If you find anything else, it's never too late to post it here, as it can help others too! I think it's a good idea to have a thread going of good places to stay on retreat (besides visiting specific orders)

So for that matter, the [url="http://www.communityofstjohn.com/"]Community of St. John in Peoria (or Laredo, TX)[/url] is definitely a great place too! That's one I'm also thinking of, but for some reason, decided not for this trip .. I think because I rather want to be totally anonymous, as I know some people there, and went there to discern .. still thinking of that order .. they are really great! It's a great place for a silent retreat though, and you can go there anytime for a silent retreat - anyone can, not only when they have specific retreats/sessions.

And then of course there's the [url="http://www.phatmass.com/phorum/index.php?showtopic=56995"]Srs of Bethlehem in NY[/url].

This September 15th, the Perpetual Adoration Chapel at [url="http://marytown.com/Default.aspx?id=84"]Marytown[/url] is being reopened One of my friends recently returned from a silent retreat there.
