Hey I'm Jim. I'm from BC. I'm goin' to UVIC (on the island, spittin' distance from Seattle). Have you ever heard of Chemainus? If you have I'll be supprised. Have you ever lived in an Iglue? (splet horribly wrong)

What is your impression of Canadians and of Canada?

There aren't enough catholics on this island!

Merry 21st of January,

Peace

Jim

I love Canada actually. Well, I don't like the government one bit, but the place is cool. I visit friends in Canada all the time. My roommate last year was from Canada (northern Manitoba) and I once kind of courted a very lovely girl who lived in Ontario but was originally from B.C.

I've never heard of the town you mentioned but I'll bet its nice.

My impression of Canada is positive (except the government), I often think about moving up there actually. Usually when I go up to Canada I work on a really nice farm with sheep and cows and lots of the best homegrown herbal teas. It's lovely to think upon. That's mainly how I think of Canada, the rural life, working really hard in the blistering cold (I love it), watching the new growth come up in spring, planting, harvesting, good farm fresh food, great tea, and lots of wood to chop. I realize city life in Canada is probably the same as anywhere so my impression is limited.

jjm, since you're from B.C. do you do much hiking? I know that B.C. has the most incredible hiking trails you can find. Great mountains and stuff. I've read (and dreamed) about it.

My grandmother is Canadian, so I feel a very strong connection to Canada. However I've never been there (unfortunately!), but I want to make a point to take a trip to Québec one day.

By the way, I love Canadian accents!

It's big......I know that from looking at a map....

Really though....I used to live in Seattle. I took a road trip with a frind of mine up to Vancover once. It was really nice. The thing that sticks out in my head most about the trip is talking my friend out of stopping by the haggis place just outside of town.

Yeah it's pretty sweet over here. I don't do enough hiking. I went out for Four days with my family this past summer to Cape Scott. Gorgeous place. goodtimes.

The mountains are pretty nice. There is an awsome mt. 1/2 hour from where I grew up called Tzuhalem (spelling iffy). There are some wicked bick trails there. It is a great hike too. Every year on good friday we do the stations of the cross up the mountain. There is a big metal cross erected 3/4 of the way to the top on a little bluff-thing (My uncle actually helped carry up the original wooden cross that got burt down later).

Closer to home there is some nice stuff too. After 18 years of growing up in the area I stayed the night with my little bro' on a small part of a mountain. It was really cool. It was that tuesday a while back when it snowed all day here. We had a huge snowball fight the next day on a bluff, on our way down.

Here is a picture of cape Scott in the winter. Friends of mine went out there during christmas break for a few nights because they enjoy not having any feeling in their toes (or fingers).

-Cheers

Jim

PS -I hear BC is much better than Quebec (mostly from people in BC)

I am Polish/Canadian.  That should say a lot.

Some of my mom's ancestry is Acadian, and they therefore booted out of Canada for being French Catholics. So I'm technically part Canadian too. holla.

Welcome jjm from a fellow Canadian! :wavey:

I live in Saskatchewan.

I like Canada, although my area of the country is a little cold right now.

Canada eh? Isn't that a country of people named 'Doug?' I don't trust a country that clean and with so few minorities. Also, most Canadians don't like the US, so I take issue with Canada on that.

Besides, Canada is to the US what my little brother is to me. Any of you have younger brothers? They try to follow you everywhere and do what you're doing. Example:

Canada/little brother: "What you doing?"

US/Big brother: "Going to war."

Canada: "Cool! Can I come?"

US: "No, you might get hurt."

Canada: "No I won't! I won't get hurt, honest I won't, just let me come, pleeeeeeeeease?"

US: "No, it's not cool to be seen with you."

Canada: "But I promise I won't get in the way."

US: "For the last time Canada, no, you can't come."

Canada: "Well I'm gonna go ask mommy(France) and daddy(England)!"

US: "*Sigh* All right, you can come, but you can't shoot any guns."

LOL @ NR.

Well I view Canada as America's sister. Both sisters get along pretty well and like each other, but we tend to fight time to time. I know many Canadians, and they tend to be patriots (just like us Americans), which is a nice trait. I may disagree with the government, and how Canada brags about certain things (such as better football, country, and so forth)... but thats what patriotism does to ya (I'm the same way). We tend to love our country, so we think it's amesome too. Nothing wrong with that, unless it ends up in unnecessary roughness.

Canada and the United States aid each other tremendously. Both countries supply each other with resources, cultural influences (well the US is made up of many different types of people anyways), and so forth. However, the US tends to produce the technology (we compete against Japan).

Canada has a lot of nature, which is great. Though you'll be suprised how much the United States has, but of course it isn't as much as Canada's. I just wish the Canadian population was at least 60 million, 30-31 million seems rather small for such a large piece of land (the state of California has almost 33-34 million). But overall, Canada is cool. I may disagree with you guys time to time, but you're cool.
