most of the metallica lyrics can eb taken as bad or portraying simply the darkness, not necessarily promoting it. like master of puppets could be said to portray the harsh reality of drug addiction, or it could be said to glorigy it. i think it's protraying har reality.

there is one song i don't think anyone would argue about it's meaning though. it has a good message in a way overall. but the way it makes the message and words....

if you want to know... look up "so what?" lyrics by metallica in google.

edit: again i reiterate that most of the lyrics prob arent that bad. there's only two that struck my eye offhand as maybe bad. one is am i evil. i think he's really saying he's evil, but i could be misinterpreting it. antoher is "the god that failed". you could say he's talking about frustration and loss of faith, is part of life. but it seems mroe to me he's saying he believes it....

"I see faith in your eyes
Never your hear the discouraging lies
I hear faith in your cries
Broken is the promise, betrayal
The healing hand held back by the deepened nail
Follow the god that failed"
[/quote]

I see you are one of the smarter people ;) . So what? isnt by metallica so scratch that, but you are right with the song, the god that failed. its about james hetfield losing his mother, she was a christian scientist and believed God would save her.

i heard some of this material at a talk. when the priest played back most of the songs in reverse, i thought, "well it doesn't sound THAT convincing," perhaps it's coincidence. then he played Britney Spears "hit me baby one more time" and i clearly heard it say "sleep with me i'm not too young" and i was SHOCKED. WHAT THE HECK? how are they even able to do that? well it really opened my eyes.

i listen to and love Christian pop/rock music. Chris Tomlin, Third Day, Kutless, etc. their messages are purely christian, nothing negative, ever. always about praising God and Jesus Christ. some start sounding like rock music, in that they have guitars and drums. Kutless has a few older songs that have the "screamo" type of singing. like a word or two that is yelled loudly.

now, i firmly believe that this is ok, and that not all rock music is evil, just the ones mentioned or any music that contains any sort of evil or negative message. even if rolling stone has 99% good songs and even has a praise song, if they have one song with anything about satan or the devil in it, i won't touch it.

if anyone has any insight on Christian Rock, i'd like to hear it. i have heard all the bad things about CCM in protestant church services, but as long as we keep it out of Mass i think it's okay.
the only danger i can see is being lured into harder and harder rock that gets less and less christian.

My personal music tastes prefer the heavy metal-type Christian rock than the more popular 'Kutless' and 'Switchfoot' Christian rock. I have no problem with these bands, I just dont prefer their musical genre. The message of course I like. But the Christian stations around me only get as heavy as Switchfoot.
I guess you could say the softest Christian rock that I really like is Spoken. (tooth and nail records, at least originally)

I might be kinda somewhat hypocritical though, cuz some of my own stuff is lighter, but usually that's when I'm in a more personally prayerful mood than an 'in your face' evangelize mood.

actually i like some of the metal stuff, but only the music. the singing sounds kinda devlish and creepy to me.

so i'm thinking again, don't throw the baby out with the bath water. it's a matter of tolerance(?). the internet is bad, but also can be used for good. some people don't have to use it at all, but some do. driving has bad racing, you can do bad stuff in cars, bad things happen, but do you stop driving? no.

but then that page says a reason to avoid ALL rock is because of near occasion of sin. but then i think with that mentality, everyone should be a hermit or cloistered religious. i dunno. i'll take it in stride for now.. or is that sloth?! hehe

I love things like this. They're amusing. Album covers that don't exist, suicides that never happened, back masking that you need to know what it says before you hear it, and erroneous song interpretations. It's funny how far some will go to condemn that which they don't like.

its amazing really. heck, going by that approach, give me some time and ill prove that gospel choir songs are really satanic!
from "praise the lord jesus" to "i gave candy to lucifer" is probably just as likely as most of this stuff. or better yet a picture of mother teresa with MS Paint "horns"!

yes, tis a good one.

and about jesus not wanting to listen to metal, or rock, or even justin timberlake, i am fairly sure that he would not be so quick to judge these as some other people on here.

thats true, but at least jesus would opt to figure that out the hard way. unless god couldnt bear to see his son listen to that and sends down angels to spirit him away

i could see Jesus listening to Chris Tomlin, Third Day, or Kutless. some great songs have some rock in it. that website itself is just way too extreme. you know something is wrong when they have so many giant fonts and exclamation points. alas there are people who seem to be convinced by it..

i'm still glad i came across it. i will be even more cautious of the satanic rock, but i won't dismiss rock altogether.
