I meant to tell you (and then I will get back to the movie)... that toy store were I bought that knitting dealy... They had Webkinz right in the front window. I saw them last night.... Now, on with the show! I thought that they didn't do a very good job of setting up the different factions. I think I was about halfway through the movie before I figured out that "Fugees" were refugees. I don't think I understood what the purpose of Julianne Moore's terrorist group was. Never could figure out what the purpose of Michael Caine's character.... I wish they'd spend more time trying to figure out what had happened to make them infertile... or given us the reason if they'd figured it out already. I think it was a great concept-- what would happen if we got what we "wanted", a society that doesn't value children doesn't have them... etc. it seemed to focus too much on the refugee aspect. [/quote] The way they portrayed the politicizing of the child, though, was interesting ... which, of course, was the reason the movie was made. The juxtaposition of the awe people had for the new life represented by the child contrasted against the willful taking of life was definitely a political statement ... and perhaps something to think about. homeschoolmom
Yes, that was interesting.... Poor kid was a pawn, though and really didn't have value in and of herself.
