PedroX
Here is an interesting article by Avery Cardinal Dulles on the subject. At least I thought it was interesting. The Population of Hell peace...
ironmonk
True, however, he probably is. And, I'm quite certaint that scripture makes it clear that there will be people in hell. For example, Christ will command the 'goats' to 'depart from Him.' Death and Hell will give up their dead, and those not found in the book of life will be cast into the Lake of Fire. What of the Pharisees in Matt 12 who committ the unpardonable sin? As well as the sorcerer Simon in Acts who, according to Church tradition, later claimed to be God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost? How can you say that he probably is in Hell? Did not Satan enter him? Was it Judas or satan that did the deed? The fact is we do not know if anyone is in Hell, all we know that those who are not written in the book of life go to hell. For all we know, all men might be written in the book of life. The point being is that we have no way of knowing because we cannot see into the hearts of men... we risk being in grave danger by judging people by their actions. No matter how horrible they are... including Osama Bin Laden... this poor man actually thinks he's doing the will of God... It's just not our place to judge or even say "probably"..... what's worse, a man who sins that does not know he's sinning, or a man that sins and knows very well he's sinning? We've all sinned that put Christ on the cross, and if we do not wish to be judged by our very own harsh judgments, we must not judge others.... no matter how "lost" someone appears.
