Lil Red
I just wanna know the mommies out there, how did you deliver? When I told my hubby that when we have kids, I want a home birth with a midwife, he about passed out!
IcePrincessKRS
I delivered the "regular way". lol No drugs, but in a birthing center not a hospital. They had drugs if I needed it, but not epidurals, if I'd wanted one I would have had to deliver in the hospital. My labor was so short, though, that even if I'd wanted drugs they wouldn't have done any good.

IcePrincessKRS
Oh, and when Adrienne was born we had a midwife and a nurse there. But I didn't want to have the birth at home. I'm too chicken I guess, especially since she is the first. Now that we know what my future labors and deliveries will probably be like Matt would be ok with home births, but I'm still kinda chicken. I don't think my mom would like the idea either, even though she probably wouldn't be around for it. lol
IcePrincessKRS
It wasn't that bad. The contractions hurt, but the actual birth part was so.. distracting? That I didn't even notice the pain. I was only in labor for 5 and a half hours total, from the first contractions to the birth. When I started the pushing phase it only lasted about 12 minutes before she was born. I would gladly go through the birthing phase several times over, I just dread morning sickness and contractions... morning sickness most, though, because with labor there's an end that you can see coming, whereas for me the sickness seemed to go on forever. IcePrincessKRS
Thats what people said to me! I was more against the epidural than ALL drugs. At one point during labor I even said "I don't know if I can handle this much longer without drugs." But then my midwife told me that I was so close to the end it wouldn't help me any. Adrienne was born about 15 minutes later. lol If I had had anything, though, it would have been Nubane (not sure if thats the correct spelling) which is a relaxent, not a pain killer. You still feel the contractions but you don't really care. My catch phrase was "I'm going to go as natural as I possibly can and hold off on drugs as long as I can." I did have to have an antibiotic drip because I tested positive for group B strep, but that was just to ensure that Adrienne wouldn't be one of the rare cases who get sick from being exposed to the bacteria. Azriel
I took the epidural. But, I was in labor for about 18 hours with contractions 5 mins apart the entire time. I labored mostly at home (12 hours or so), and didn't get the epidural till I was dialated to 6. I'm very glad I did. That was a marathon of pain. My older sister had one, too, and she was in labor for nearly 40 hours. If I'd been in that situation I definately would have opted for drugs I think, but I still would have declined the epidural. The idea of needles poking into my spine and all just freaks me out.
Faithful heart
I am a WIMP!!! I was in hard labor for 4 hours, then I got to be on drugs for the next 10 hours. Then I had an emergency C-Section. My 2nd child was a planned C-section. A C-section for me is the ONLY sane way to have a baby!!!! For those of you who are having their first child or looking forward to having children, the pain is intense but the reward is somthing you can't imagine. Faithful heart
The epidual or a needle is the last thing that will be on your mind. If you can do it without drugs thats great, I was scared of an epidural too, untill I felt labor. I am going to stop. I just have no tolerance for pain. If I were to do it again I would want a midwife. Everyone I talked to who had one seemed to have had a better handle on giving birth.
IcePrincessKRS
lol Red, I just realized you titled this "Those that have Kids" and then included the "I don't have kids" option in the poll. :: Faithful, I am a tremendous wimp, having an IV was bad enough, I would never get an epidural! You really should try a midwife next time around if you know of a good one in your area, but I'd suggest first delivering in the hospital (before/IF you try a home birth) just in case you want certain drugs they can't administer, or in case they decide you should have another c-section once you begin laboring. Azriel
I thought the idea of an epidural was scary. But, then I got there, and forgot how scary it was! My hospital actually has a midwife birthing suite. Its the only hospital in the area that accomodates midwives. I was glad for the epidural if only that it let me relax enough that when I found out she'd breathed in some meconium, I didn't get all flipped out.
