Diversity Church?

Ok, Long story kinda short. My boss wants me to start working on saturday, and i cant make it to church and to work on time.. so i need to finda church closer to work.. His church is like 2 miles away and he invited me to go to said church... which i am fine with trying it on for size  .

my question is... this church, is a "diverse church" or thats what i they call it i guess... anyway. they have a welcoming commitee for Gay people.. which is nice i think.. but it seems against the rules? like they have a rainbow pride banner that says "embracing the whole family" and stuff..
I am just wondering if anyone else has experienced a church like this? or if its normal?

I just know the church I normally go to, does not have anything like this going on...

any input?

There is nothing less that any christian can do except to ask for the conversion of the gay person, or any person living in sin. You cannot embrace them in any manner less than that. Be compassionate, indeed, but do not allow any room for political propaganda to enter the church in any effort to embrace the homosexual or sodomistic community as some kind of safety net in the chirch, where they feel comfortable to continue behaving sinfully and influencing behavior toward themselves.

The gays openly make efforts to become a part of the church, to the extent that their behavior be accepted "as is". This must not be allowed, nor profited from.

You should also keep in mind that members from all different kinds of group want nothing less than to see "church" as something they can control. There are so many with political agendas who, so sublimely, act in every perfect way toward the profitability of their own cause, which underpins each of their efforts as members of the church. There are feminists, gays, protestant evangelicals, communists [yes, there are communists], there are even those who would have every female prohibited from any kind of ministry excepting them from religious life. All of these are oppressive and political.

You stay with the Pope. Only then can there be unity, and only then can there be peace for all persons from all backgrounds. Like Paul says, "Imitate me as I imitate Christ". That is how you should follow the Pope.

There is a universal church. It is for ALL people. It is for all people who are willing to submit themselves to God's will, for those who do not place themselves above the will of God or the Word of God, and for those who do not act subversively.

Is this for Sunday Catholic obligation? Is this a non-Catholic church?
If this is the case: no can-do

If this is a Catholic Church and Sunday obligation is the issue - heck yes!

Gay issues - as long as they are in line with Catholic teaching are

so, should i not go to this church? Or is that not what you are saying?
also, This church is like way accepting, like full on GAY PRIDE, which whatever.. but it seems a little strange to me coming from a catholic church..?

i guess i am just confused, i mean i understand they are trying to be understanding and tolerant of everyone, but they are like going against what the church believes?

I personally would see if you had any other options...I think www.masstimes.org is a good place to research that. Those types of churches tend to be heterodox, and I would say statistically more rife with liturgical abuse--they ignore the Church teaching on homosexuality, it's not too far a leap for them to also ignore the rubrics of the Mass. When you say "gay pride" and all of that, though, I'm assuming that you mean that it's a "come as you are" sort of thing, an "it's okay if you're gay! you're not doing anything wrong!" instead of encouraging groups like Courage, which helps people suffering same-sex attraction live according to the Church's teaching, and even overcome it.

Having a sign in a Catholic church that says "gay pride" would be exactly the same as a sign saying stealing pride, adultry pride, or murder pride. Sin is not something to celebrate. Gay pride is advertising a behavior choice contrary to the will of God. In is not a sin to have same-sex attraction, it is a sin to celebrate behavior that leads to intimacy outside of marriage.

Thy Geekdom Come

You want to go to a Catholic Church...especially one which is under the local bishop (the church you descibe may well not be...in any event, it's clearly not in line with the Church).

I'd avoid it. If the only occasion you have to get to Mass is on Saturday, then there are federal laws protecting your right to have time for Mass...he can't keep you from it. If he tries to say that you could always go to his church and thus don't have an excuse, simply tell him, "your church isn't following the Catholic faith."

Groo the Wanderer

I fluffy air extraction in the general direction of ANYTHING with the word 'diversity' in it. I am SO sick of being told that we must respect and accept ANYTHING. pooey on that.

Love the sinner, HATE the sin. If they embrace sexual deviancy as normal, accepted, or OK, then they are unacceptable - Run, not walk away from this one...

But would that stand in court? A judge might just say "Catholic mass is Catholic mass". You might have a better chance of suing the parish for "false advertising" in claiming to be Catholic while going against church teachings.

i am pretty sure they had a couple visits from teh bishop a few months back.

these pictures are on their website..

i dont know... i mean, we are portland, or, which is like the most gay friendly place in the WORLD... so maybe thats why the church is being so tolerant?
