EcceNovaFacioOmni
http://catholicforum.goodcatholicsite.com/...ad.php?tid=2258 Please come here and help me out against this "rocky" guy. He claims he is a Catholic but he is saying there is no Free Will. He has others here convinced that this is Catholic dogma when it is quite the opposite. He is also against the Catholic position on salvation. All this and he claims to be Catholic, yet he rejects Vatican II and the current Catechism. He is leading this forum into heresey. HELP! thicke
Hopefully my reponse will help. Here's what I said: Rocky - In looking at your original post, you quote Saint Augustine from Chap 11 of "A TREATISE ON REBUKE AND GRACE". I can not find the line you quoted anywhere in that chapter. To be honest I can't find that line anywhere in the whole essay. What I can find is Saint Augustine affirming free will, in this essay and others. Here is the text of the essay: http://www.newadvent.org/fathers/1511.htm Also, here is the text of "A TREATISE ON GRACE AND FREE WILL": http://www.newadvent.org/fathers/1510.htm I find his affirmation here very inspiring. jmjtina
I HIGHLY recommend the book: On Free Choice of the Will by St. Augustine. Great read, great explainations and most of all in Q&A form. I read it during my first year of college. You can find it in ANY library. I found a copy at our local half price book store! Peace and God Bless! EcceNovaFacioOmni
Your right, I am just afraid because this guy had a few Catholics convinced that he was spewing out official positions of the Church. I can't take that forum anymore. I'm thinking of leaving it. It is full of Catholics who don't know some of the basic beliefs of the faith. Today I was greeted by a post that went something like this: "Why should we believe that are Pope is always right and we are Christ's church when it was founded 1000 years later?" It's full of people who think we could be wrong and that other churches are just as good as being a Catholic. I find it depressing and annoying, what should I do? Lil Red
stay away for awhile if it is distressing you that much, and take time to pray for these people. God Bless! :)
EcceNovaFacioOmni
Thank you. I would like to stay away but I just can't. These people have no direction, I am the last of the orthodox people around there. I feel if I leave, I am allowing heresey, and the people there will believe in heretical doctrines. I feel a trend towards liberalism there.
phatcatholic
Thank you. I would like to stay away but I just can't. These people have no direction, I am the last of the orthodox people around there. I feel if I leave, I am allowing heresey, and the people there will believe in heretical doctrines. I feel a trend towards liberalism there. well, then let me give you some advice. fight the good fight. BUT, watch out for some things, such as the following: 1. resentment. when u begin to develop real feelings of hatred or resentment towards these people, instead of witnessing out of Christian love, then it's time to take a break. 2. pride. it is my experience that, in environments like that, after a while you can lose focus, forget why you are REALLY there (for the sake of the Church and for truth), and instead start posting b/c u are out to prove someone wrong. pride is a sneaky sin, and it EASILY disguises itself in actions that seem good. if u get to a point where u can't wait to log on there just so u can show mr. so-and-so how utterly wrong, and stupid, and ridiculous he is.......or if u are longing to show them how right u are, then its time to take a break. remember, its not about you. its about the Truth that has been given to you as a gift. you can protect it, but it is not yours. 3. if u find urself making attacks that judge the character of the people there, or that are not related to the topic, then it is time to take a break. i'm not saying that you are bound to do any of those things, but i know from my own experience at other sites, that this can happen if you are not careful. good luck and God Bless, phatcatholic
