Stigmata

musturde,

i read the comments from that forum, and here's what i think:

since i have always understood stigmata to fall under "private" revelation (as opposed to "public" revelation--for an article on this, go here), catholics are not obligated to believe in the stigmata. however, when a claim is made that a person bears the stigmata, the Church always does thorough research to determine if it is true, and has claimed the affirmative in several cases. i trust the deliberation of the Church. so, if they affirm that a saint has recieved the stigmata, i am quite inclined to affirm it as well. truly mystical stigmata has characteristics that separate it from anything that could be psychological induced, which also aids in belief.

for more on this, consult the following articles:

--What is the Stigmata?

--Mystical Stigmata

i hope this helps........pax christi,
