cathgirl
I was watching a show and it said that after saints die there are many Catholic cults formed around them. Have you guys ever of these so called "cults" or do you think that they mean that many Catholics pray to them?
IXpenguin21
"watching a show," eh? does it happen to be any show on the history or discovery channel?? i'm just asking because they don't really show sympathy towards religions when they do stories. i once heared them back up a possibility that Jesus was an extra terestreal from another plannet. i have heared of these cluts forming, similar to when John the Baptist was preaching, he would have to remind the peole that he was NOT to be worshiped, and that he is just a messanger. the early people probably thought that st. paul was something great and worshiped him. if you notice in some of st. pauls writings, he urges the people not to be focused on who the Mass is celebrated with, or who's words they were using for the sacrifice, but that the focus should be on the sacrifice it self, similar to john the baptist. cathgirl
"watching a show," eh? does it happen to be any show on the history or discovery channel?? Yeah, I noticed that whenever they said somthing that we believed they made it sound sarcastic and nieve. (i don't have the slightest clue how to write that word) They were trying to disprove the stigmata and even said something about pictures we "worshipped". It made me very angry.

willguy
Actually, cult is the official Catholic term. The latin term is cultus. It means "adore." The Vatican can confirm the cult of a saint, similar to beatifying it. This is, in this sense, a perfectly legitimate use of the word. Unfortunately, in modern usage, cult has adopted a negative connotation.
