Akalyte
ok so there's an argument that we shouldnt baptise in the name of the Father, son and Holy spirit, but only in the name of Jesus. Although this verse Matthew 28:19 says this: "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. There's an argument that there arent "3 persons".

White Knight
Unfortunately, alot of this teaching is going along way for Protestants all over. Baptizing only in the name of Jesus or the Holy Spirit. neglecting the entire Being of God, who is in three persons, yet one. However at the sametime I see, many Protestants baptize using the Trinitarian Method, the correct method, I fortunately was baptized "In the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit." But back on point, its sad to see that this Command isn't being fullfilled completely by Protestant Christianity.

Thy Geekdom Come
Modalism is easily beaten. The passage says to baptize in the Name (singular) of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (plural). If there were one person with three roles or titles, it would say, "baptize in the name of the Father-Son-Holy-Spirit" or "baptize in the names (where name would mean title and not "name") of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (which in this view would just be titles to baptize one into one person)." Rather, the Trinity is shown quite well...a name belongs to a single entity, yet "Father, Son, and Holy Spirit" are relational terms. If they were the same person, then you would be saying that the Father is the Son, which is simply impossible and illogical. The use of relational terms shows that they must be separate Persons, yet the use of the singular "Name" shows that they are one Entity. As for Baptizing in the Name of Jesus, this only means that one should be baptized into Jesus, which is what happens...by being baptized into Jesus (and joined to Him), we are joined to the Father and the Holy Spirit in Him and therefore are baptized into the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The two formulae are not at odds.
White Knight
Ya, but it can lead down the wrong road unfortunately. Not giving glory to God entirally only partically, thats what it can lead too if you only Baptize in the Name of Holy Spirit or Jesus. Jesus gave us a command to go into all the nations of the Earth and Baptize them in "The Name of the Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit." therefore we give all the Glory to Him when we do this, because The Father is the Creator, and Maker of the Plan of Salvation, Jesus is the fullfiller of that plan, and the Holy Spirit, is the life giver of the plan, so really every Method God used deserves all the credit. EcceNovaFacioOmni
Three "modes" also gives us a changing, non-eternal God. Is He the Father right now? When will the Son be in? We'd have to make appointments to pray!
