Jutty1224
It seems that alot of people in the forums are always saying that they hate the contemporary hymns that they usually sing in their parish. I'm wondering if there is anyone that likes them? I do, I've grown accustomed to them since i've grown up atteneding masses where they're usually sung, the only exception being when i was going to school at Magdalen College. So yes, I like alot of them and Just discovered in the past couple days since installed iTunes on my computer that they have a ton of them on there. Jabberwocky
They are what I'm used to hearing, and some of them I really like. Most of the ones that I don't really care for much are the Marty Haugen, piano-y ones.
Aloysius
I don't mind them outside the context of the Liturgy... well, I still mind some of them.
djc08
Outside of Mass, good. Inside of Mass questionable. There are just so many wonderfully written more Traditional Hymns out there that are underplayed and unappreciated.
Totus Tuus
In general, No, I don't like them.
Sojourner
I think it depends on the hymn. Some are good, others just don't seem quite ... respectful enough?

veroni213
In general I don't have a problem with them. But, there are a couple I can't stand (in Mass or not). I think the worst is "We are Companions on the Journey." For some reason I used to like it. Then I listened to the lyrics. The coagulated milk factor is unbelievable. cappie
Traditional hymns were once contemporary.

NicholasLarkinIV
If lyrics are appropriate, than I may like a contemporary song, in fact, Christian Contemporary is my second favorite type of music to listen to after Gregorian Chant. But, I do not think contemporary is appropriate for the Eucharistic Sacrifice, for the traditional chants & hymns are there already. While there are I am sure exceptions of good contemporary hymns for Mass, I prefer not!
Balthazor
Actually I like some of them, but some are poorly done, and evenly more poorly executed unfortunitely. I really think that the lack of a good arrangment and a good choir has a lot to do with it.
son_of_angels
I've always "Amen. El cuerpo de Christo" but, even then, I don't really like it's "playfulness" for the Mass itself. Some of the popular contemporary hymns like "All are welcome" etc. have annoying connotations, and are used equally well with bad theology, even if they don't themselves contain objectionable material. On the other hand, there are some really cheesy Latin songs that my choir inisists on singing constantly "O Deus Ego Amo te" ICK! Just stick with good 'ol Gregorian Chant hymns and propers, or write some new ones of the same genre. I would rather just here a plainchant recitation of "Miserere" anyday than "One bread, one body." Then again, I also would prefer if Churches didn't use artificial amplification or lighting...
prose
I like contemporary hymns, and get this... I think there is even room for respectful new music. Some of which hasn't even been written yet.

I hope our generation can add to the beauty of religious music.
