Sojourner
I used to celebrate it with a family who I'm close with, and they'd do stockings (instead of shoes) and fill them with candy and small presents. Then, every year we wrote letters to ourselves to open the next year ... that was probably the coolest part of the tradition, to open a letter you wrote yourself a year ago. homeschoolmom
I like the letters. I think we'll do that this year. We will make St. Nicholas ornaments to add to our advent tree and put out shoes. Some of my friends who put out shoes give each of their kids a Christmas tree ornament so that when they leave the house as young adults, they have a lifetime of ornaments to fill their new trees. Lucy
We hang stockings on the railing of our stairs the night before St. Nick's feast. The next morning we wake up early to see what St. Nick left us. We usually get a bag of chocolate money, candy canes, and some misc. items... usualy small games. MissScripture
Put out your shoe, and when you wake up, it's filled up! Well, now that I'm in college, and I'm the one who knows the tradition, I sort of have to do the shoe filling...but it's still fun!!
EcceNovaFacioOmni
I find the biggest pair of boots that I own and remind my mom that St. Nicholas is coming tonight.
Mary-Kathryn
ideas? we have cake ansd small presents
I have the children leave out a shoe the night before and I put a bag with candy in there [or close to it if you have stinky shoe syndrome] One year, one of my boys put out one of his snow boots. I guess he figured the bigger the shoe, the more candy he would get. The funny thing is, it doesn't matter how old the "kid", the treat can evolve and the excitement is still the same. I have to look and see if I find anything clever. If not, we will just draw pix of him in his bishop duds and hand it on the tree.

Piccoli Fiori JMJ
We hang stockings up by the door and we get fruit (grapfruits, oranges, apples, bananas usually) and little presents like maybe a travel mug or something we need (have yet to see underwear or socks appear) and sometimes some Christmas candies (usually chocolate).
