Help With Bible Study

As I often neglect the Old Testament, I've decided that I should pay more attention to it. Now I am planning to study the Book of Exodus, but I'm finding many of the happenings difficult to understand. I just don't know enough about the culture and context. Can anyone recommend a good commentary that I can read parallel to the text?

As it happens, this year, my Bible study is going through the book of Exodus, following a study program of Scott Hahn et al. Here's the link:

If you're not interested in a Scripture study like this, I suppose you could go with the Navarre Bible (probably get the Pentateuch, if they don't sell Exodus individually). Otherwise, get a Bible with fairly robust commentary.

Enjoy.

I will never see the OT in the same light after seeing this Scott Hahn study on salvation history:

here's a small collection of articles on the book of Exodus. it's hardly comprehensive, but it may help some:

You can also go to www.alibris.com and search for "A practical bible commentary" by Fredrick Knect. It is a good commentary and can be picked up used for un 30 bucks.

Here is one available copy.
