Thy Geekdom Come
Profanity is over rated. I really don't know why people get so offended by it. Truthful words that are discriptive in highlighting faults are much more harmful. Getting upset at profanity is like getting upset at a 5 year old teasing you.
Then to use profanity is to act like a 5-year-old.

kujo
I think it's an interesting question of intent. If you are intending to insult someone, the words you use are of no consequence (what's the difference between calling a woman a "silly sally" and saying that "the number of men this woman has fornicated with are as numerous as the stars in God's great sky?") If certain words are part of the vernacular of a given section of society or culture, and those words are not used in a vulgar or insulting way (i.e.- "You are the s***" "You are the f-bomb man!"), I don't see the issue. While I would agree that there are probably more eloquent, sophisticated ways to speak, the fact is that some people are neither the former or the latter. I don't see how that means that people should lay aside the argument over bad language.

Red Knight
What do I consider profanity? Regrettably, a large number of words that pass my own lips.
