Lil Red
when i'm in adoration, i usually am looking at Jesus, or i'm looking at the picture of Mary and Jesus together. when i'm at Mass, it depends - sometimes i shut my eyes to focus on the prayers being said (usually the Eucharistic prayers)
do you guys every find sometimes when you're praying, who or what you're praying for reminds you of something, then you get off on this whole different trail of thoughts then you're like "woops i was totally supposed to be praying, wasn't i?" maybe that's just me. but i'm sooo easily distracted!
i do that waaaaaayyyyy too much! uruviel
It all depends on where I am. If I'm before the blessed Sacrament I will kneel, close my eyes, bow my head, look at the tabernacle, different things. I prefer to say the Sorrowful mysteries and meditate on the Passion of our Lord. If I'm in my room I can't pray in my bed for long, it just doesn't work. I would have to kneel next to it or at the very least sit up at the end of my bed. I only close my eyes if I have distractions around me that need to be ignored, other wise I will focus on a Crucifix, photo, statue, the wall, etc.. But there is usually something to distract me anyways so....
i've been told that i sound like i have an irish accent when i pray out loud!!
I have found myself speaking in sort of an English accent when I pray before O_o I'm weird
HeavenlyCalling
I usually kneel with my eyes closed and head bowed, I just end up that way. Like some other people said, I am distracted easily, even in the Adoration chapel, where there is very little to distract you ( my sister calls these my 'look! SHINY' moments ) I also like to meditate on the Passion and suffering of Our Lord, and the discomfort of kneeling so long makes it slightly easier to relate ( not nearly as apinful as what Our Lord went through). I have also deveoped a devotion to the Sacred Heart, which was kind of random. We had this picture in our living room of the Sacred Heart FOREVER and I always thought it was really ugly, then one day I just started praying in front of it whenever I passed, It was a bit weird, but I am assuming it was what the Lord wanted. Sorry if I have gotten off topic here, I am sure you are all by now
uruviel
No I'm not falling asleep hehe. I think that's great you have a devotion to the Sacred Heart. We have this one really, quite large photo of the sacred heart in our chapel. It always looks as if His eyes are looking right through you. It's an amazing painting
stuckinamo
i'm glad i'm not the only one who goes off on different trains of thoughts while she prays!! ...it reminds me of a quote i just heard. the person was talking about how our Lord doesn't really care much about how we pray or what we really prayed for...but it's more the attempt. it's like a small child giving a dandilion to his father. it's the thought behind it and the time that counts. (it was something like that.) God is good.
goldbug16
I usually pray kneeling with my eyes closed... Stuckinamo, I heard a quote from Ste. Therese that was like that... I will try to find it...
Birgitta Noel
ummm, if I'm at adoration or just praying alone in the chapel at the Brothers usually sitting on the floor or kneeling with my face on the floor (I know that's not exactly kneeling, but I don't know how else to describe it). The Brothers teach that this posture is a way of making oneself small before God. It is a great physical reminder of one's littleness (think St. Therese) and it also eliminates distractions. I am sooooo distracted at communion time if I am just kneeling. By having my face on the floor I am less so.
JesusIPray
I usually pray with my eyes closed. Unless I'm praying as I'm walking through walmart, then I try to be considerate of the other people around me and keep my eyes open. I'd feel bad if I was being selfish with my eyes closed and rammed my cart into someones ankles.
NicholasLarkinIV
I prefer to pray kneeling in the Eucharistic Chapel, but when this is not possible, my back up is to sit on my bed infront of my crucifix. I have a kneeler in my room, but I never seem to use it. Pray that one day I will be holy enough to use it. Pray for me, and all poor and wretched sinners!!! Winchester
'Cause then there was this boy whose Parents made him come directly home right after school And when they went to their church They shook and lurched all over the church floor He couldn't quite explain it They'd always just gone there
