homeschoolmom
When I had my kids they gave me one of each. I'm guessing that not too many people who don't have kids own one, though. Unless they can't read and bought it by mistake, but when you can buy a digital thermometer why go through the hassle of a glass one? I guess some people still perfer them....
I guess so. I think I received one from the hospital at some point.
Probably!! I think we have a rectal thermometer somewhere.... we use a digital one but, it is so old that it takes longer than the glass ones sometimes
Didymus
we've used the digital ear one for years now. Why do people still use the mouth thing?
Sojourner
The old one still works.
rollingcatholic
It's against the law to throw a glass one away.
homeschoolmom
Only if it's mercury.
Aloysius
you can use a mouth thermometer under your arm (just never use it in a mouth again after that haha). add one degree to the reading and that's your temperature. that's what my family always used to do. homeschoolmom
I used to do that with my kids when they were really little.
Balthazor
Um....now they have in the ear ones for kids. But we still use the rectal ones on the cows, mostly because it is really hard to get a cow to keep a thermometer in their mouth and cows don't have arms to put under.....maybe put it between the udder and the leg? Hmmm... what a hassle.
homeschoolmom
Yeah, we have an ear one. But sometime's they're hard to use on squirmy babies. Holding the thermometer under a little baby's armpit is much easier.
We had a rectal thermometer that mom and dad used on us when we were little. *shudders at memory* My mother gave me a glass thermometer when I came to college. When I asked why, she said it was because it was more precise. What she neglected to realize is that I CAN'T READ IT SO IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW PRECISE IT IS! homeschoolmom
I'm always afraid of breaking them when I shake them back down... and then I'll cut myself and get mercury poisoning...
