Christmas Music & Decorations?

When do you usually start listening to Christmas music and put up your decorations. So many people in my community already have decorations up that i see while delivering pizza for Domino's. There is one radio station that i normally listen to that airs the Delilah show and they started playing Christmas music in mid November. That is just way to early. Because of that I stopped listening to the show until Christmas is closer. Then what happens is that on only the 2nd day of the Christmas season, there will be no more Christmas music. By Holy Innocents, Valentines day merchandise will be on store shelves. To me it different to have a whole week between Thanksgiving and the start of Advent. I like to enjoy Advent first. I don't usually put up my own tree (I'm single and have my own apt.) until between the solstice and Christmas eve. I'll put a wreath on my door when Advent starts with a purple bow, that i'll change to gold on Christmas eve. Then I'll get a couple poinsettias for Gaudette Sunday. I'll take everything down the day after the Baptism of the Lord and usually leave the poinsettias until Lent starts.

I start listening to a few songs around this time since the radio starts to play them... It's a fun mood starter for Advent.

As for decorations... Outside, before the ground freezes so they are majoritly up. Inside, somewhat early so we have time to enjoy them and not be in such a rush decorating when preparing for Christmas. Trees and such, always fun whenever the entire family can get together to do it.

I know what you mean. The stores skipped from Halloween straight to Christmas and it will all be down by the second day of Christmas. My neighbors take their trees down before New Year! I take my Christmas decorations down after Epiphany - I am glad that I am not alone.

My family doesn't usually put the tree up until about a week before Christmas either. I am glad that I am not the only one who thinks that this is crazy.

I do a Festival of Trees this week so I have been working on Christmas while running the Haunted House. Makes for interesting conversations. The other day I asked a lady how many little goblins she was bringing instead of how many in the kids choir. I dream of christmas trees with little ghosties peeking around them

My personal Christmas doesn't start til the 4th Snuday of Advent and my tree always stays up until Epiphany. When my kids were little it stayed up til Candlemas.

We put up our tree yesterday, but we decorated it with our "Advent decorations"-- purple lights, purple beads and pink ornaments. We also put out the creche (under the tree) and the Wise Men are in position to start their trek across the window ledge to the manger. My advent wreath is out, too.

We will add decorations to the tree as different holidays come-- St. Nicholas, Our Lady and St. Lucia... We will put the Christmas ornaments on on Christmas Eve and leave it all up until Epiphany.

Poinsettias on Gaudette Sunday is a good idea-- I think we'll do that. Do you get pink (er, I mean "rose") or red?

One year my Christmas tree stayed up until Feb. 23. I was pregnant and HSdad was in grad school. He was too busy to take it down and I was too unbalanced.

Well, a priest friend of mine is having a Christmas party on the 17th and he put me in charge of music. So, I have been listening to A LOT of Christmas music. By the time Christmas rolls around I am going to be sick of it...Could be worse though, could be doing another clown show and pick music for that. By the time that show came, I was so tired of Children's music and had more of it floating in my head then I care to admit...

I don't put up any decorations, so I don't take them down! I actually hate, loathe, and despise christmas. the sentimantality is so sweet it makes my teeth ache. I yearn to observe it only as a religious holiday. Maybe this year, I will be able to do that this year.

... and thats MISTER scrooge :)

Vince Guaraldi's A Charlie Brown Christmas CD.... I never get tired of that one....

Actually, I was watching the annual lighting of the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center and Enya had a beautiful song that she sung. I wish I could find it, but it is only available in Canada. Truth be told though, I could never tire of Christmas music, I like it far too much :)

Me too. I love it. I could listen to it all year round. But I try not to let myself start until after Thanksgiving-- with the lone exception of the Vince Garaldi Trio cd... I need it for 11/11.

Of course, what would 11/11 be without it ;)

Also, you could make the argument that some Christmas music is more Christian than some Christian music, therefore, we should listen to Christmas music all year long ;)

How's that for "Christmas Logic" :)

You mean, "Christmas Logic"... don't get all secular and PC on us. ;)

I agree... Many Christmas carols are just very beautiful hymns. I love 'em.

Now... onto the subject of Christmas cards....

My list gets shorter each year. I sometimes skip it all together.

I wish I could do them after the 25th without people thinking I was late.
