kujo
Hey ya'll. I dunno if any of you caught the 11/28 episode of "The Colbert Report" but he was discussing the Pope's visit to turkey. If you didn't see it, click here. What did ya'll think? I think he's at least partially correct here, as far as this facination with ecumenism between the Big Three religions (Judaism, Islam and Christianity). I understand that we need to all "get along" but what's with this constant grovelling and minimalizing things like "we all believe in the same God" and "we all want to live a good life." I'm sorry, but the "Allah" of Islam that commands his followers to decapitate "infidels" is not the same God of Christianity, Catholicism, and, in part, Judaism. I dunno. I'm young and narrow-minded. What do ya'll think?
EcceNovaFacioOmni
It is the same God of Abraham. There is definitely a distorted image among radical Islamics though.

suuran
Uh...kujo, if you don't think Islam worships the one God, you believe something other than what the Church teaches. I can look for the citation if you want it, but the Catholic Church teaches the Muslims worship the One God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I would also point out that "Allah" is just the Arabic word for "God"--Arabic speaking Christians worship "Allah". And finding common ground--principles we both agree on--is the first step to the conversion of Muslims.
Mary's servant
AMDG+JMJ The Jews and the Christians may both believe in Abraham, but Islam believes in Ibrahim, not Abraham. If anyone has read the Koran (I admit I've only read part of it) it includes many Old Testament stories, but that are drastically changed to where they barely mean anything close to what the Jews and Christians hold them to mean. I was making the point that the God that they worship seems to be different from the Judeo-Christian God. I am not against ecumenism, but I am against pandering and forcing something that, quite simply, isn't there.
suuran
From the CCC:
841 The Church's relationship with the Muslims. "The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day."
Jesus_lol
I'm sorry, but the "Allah" of Islam that commands his followers to decapitate "infidels" is not the same God of Christianity, Catholicism, and, in part, Judaism.
sorry to call you on this, but viewing a religion based on its fanatic followers is not a fair way to view he religion itself. allah does not tell them to kill infidels, just as jesus didnt tell the raging mobs to burn thousands of innocent women in the dark ages. Most major religions have fanatics who do unspeakable horror under the banner of their god, including christianity. Considering the similarities between events in the bible and the koran, i think its very likely that both are describing the same god from different viewpoints. one is no more correct than the other, but you choose to follow which one represents your true beliefs and principles, not the one that you think has the best chance in "winning". i am christian my self but i believe that other religions share the same right to exist as my own. even ones with multiple gods and goddesses, i beleive they are worshiping different aspects of the same god, given separate names but still a part of the whole prepared for flaming, but there you go Edited December 5, 2006 by Jesus_lol

Yes i'm sorry it is the same god. You all worship the same imaginary person. And god doesn't command anyone to do anything. they read it in a book, written by a mortal man. Just like you read your rules in the bible, written by a mortal man, not god. Ezekiel 23:19-20 Yet she increased her prostitution, remembering the days of her youth when she engaged in prostitution in the land of Egypt. She lusted after their genitals – as large as those of donkeys, and their seminal emission was as strong as that of stallions.
