Are you sure? I've read Sagan, Hawking, and Russell on relativity and I don't recall anything about time and space actually being the same thing, but only related (but hey, it's been a few years).

When you make c=1 (which is the easiest and, thus, the most common way to calculate anything in relativity) length and time are the same.

It's more a math trick than a physical description of what anything [i]is[/i], but that's all that physics really gets you anyway. ;)

(More accurately, both time and distance are components of a vector with magnitude c.)
