philothea is actually also a fantasy writer

she has a book that she has been trying to get published. I don't think it's made it yet but she's working on it.

I hope it’s good… but I have doubts.
I’m just finishing the first book myself – and I have seen stills from the movie, and I wasn’t too pleased.

When a movie takes a story from a book, uses the title of the book… but then disregards very basic things like character descriptions, etc… I think it’s pretty wrong to the point of being offensive.

I know I sound petty – but the Urgals who in the book are large strong creatures with long twisting horns protruding right above their ears.
What do I see in the “Urgals” in the movie? A bunch of goofy snarling men …no horns.

The elf Aria is specifically described as having raven-black hair in the book.
In the movie? A chick with red hair… and not even pointy ears! Not even pointy ears? Who portrays an elf with no pointy ears?

What dumb fool made this movie?
I dig the book – I couldn’t put it down, and I will begin reading the second one next week.
But I am in no hurry to see the movie.

Yeah, I don't really like the idea of a "good dragon." Weren't dragons the symbol of the Devil in the Middle Ages?
oh pish! what wasn't the symbol of the devil in the middle ages?

this movie had better be good and not just a special effects show off. i really liked both books and cannot wait for the movie and the third

Movie did NOT follow the book.

That was the quickest movie ever!!!!

RUSH, RUSH, RUSH!!!!!!! :maddest:

Let's forget about Rowan's story, Aria's story, Murtaugh's story and just make one up!!!!! :pinch:

What did I expect?

However, a friend who didn't read the book thought it was cool.

From what I'm hearing from the people who actually read the book, I'm kinda glad I didn't.

Ya... that's what I was afraid of.
I guess I'll just rent it... maybe.

yeah it was not well done.

The book was not stellar ... but it was still fun. The movie ... I was pretty consistently conscious of the holes in the plot, and the places it varied from the book. The screenplay was not good.

read the books, saw the movie

the movie was good but not great...but maybe that's just cause i felt cheated that they cut so much out of the book.

i wish i KNEW when they were coming out with book #3

the only REAL problem i have with the series is that the witch/herbalist Angela is not portrayed as "bad"...therefore, apparently, since Eragon does not object to her telling his fortune, she must be "good"...and she uses the same sort of magic as the good guys ( a la Harry Potter?) while the movie only features a very brief fortune-telling scene, it still irritates me that, while the evil Shade is said to be possessed with demons, this witch (witches REALLY only use powers not of God, therefore evil powers from Satan or demons) is labeled as 'good" because she helps the good guys

though every fantasy story has to have some higher power, my preference for the Eragon series would be that good and evil be more clearly defined. in addition, is it a good thing to be able to read and control minds, or break into them, like the characters--good AND bad--often do? it begs to question where exactly this power they all use comes from--a "good" being or a bad one?

as for the movie itself, the dialogue was poor in places, the special effects were fantastic (although the Urgals look like men rather than monsters), and the cast was okay, except that I expected better from John Malkovich, but Jeremy Irons was pretty good. i guess it was just too short, and left enough out to cause book fans to say it was "okay". as for the whole series, the spiritual powers and religious stuff is rather questionable, even though it's more LOTR than Harry Potter in regards to definitions of good and evil

let me know what y'all think about this!

it's more STar wars......

killing off all the dragonriders, (like the jedi's) for power, then having the offspring of a traitor come and "balance" the good and evil,

More Star Wars knock-off than anything........IMHO
