kujo
I heard from a friend that fertilization could take hours to occur inside of the woman's womb. Therefore, does the Church feel that it is permissible if a woman who is raped, goes to the hospital and is given this pill?
Thy Geekdom Come
The morning after pill irritates the lining of the uterus so that a fertilized egg cannot attach. If fertilization has not occured and a person takes it, and then fertilization does occur, the baby will not be able to attach and will be aborted. The morning after pill does not keep sperm from meeting up with the egg.
beatty07
there's a big discussion on this very topic labelled "Plan B for rape victims"...check it out.
thessalonian
http://www.phatmass.com/phorum/index.php?showtopic=60252 Here's the link. Plan B is not primarily an abortifacient but stops ovulation. Therefore according to my understanding of a statement by the USCCB it could be used in the case of rape if it could be absolutely certain that conception has not taken place. However currently that is virtually impossible. You can find info and a link to the USCCB article in the other thread. Many girls know when they ovulate. Some can feel it, your temp goes up...a lot of stuff happens to your body. You just know. Or some just know...not all. But any way...... If you come out at the right time, you will not have a secondaary oocyte floating around for the fertilizing. For example: immediatly after a period. See plan b and the pill work a lot alike... The first couple pills in a 28 or 21 day ortho-tri cylcene pack act as anti-ovulants. That is why you are a lot more likely to get pregnant when you miss a pill in the 1st five days of a cycle rather than missing one in the later weeks. So really you could still use plan B if you know where you are.
prose
I know when I am ovulating. I use NFP. It is definately not far fetched that a woman knows her body.
Matty_boy
However, you can't know for sure that when taking the EC pill, that you are simply blocking fertilization. Nobody can be that accurate. You're really playing with fire there.
