The more I find-out, the more I am encouraged -beautiful, classically built convents and monasteries of Catholic brothers and sisters  are being built all around the US. Inspiring simply in their existence :saint:, they are often places for prayer :sign: and pilgrimage of non-religious Catholics as well :applause: . These are those I know about in various states from recent completion to new conception (please feel free to add others!).

Though it is not new, the Trappist Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers Georgia is incredible. People come from all over to pray there. The website barely hints at the beauty. The website is www.trappist.net

I love that SMME is attracting lots of new vocations, but you also have to take into consideration the turnover rate... how many sisters of each group actually makes first vows? Final vows?
I don't mean to be debbie downer or anything, this just helped me realize that no community is perfect... this actually helped with my discernment.
*In no way am I bashing these Sisters. I absolutely love them. But is it wise to take into consideration things that happen after entrance and clothing.

If anyone would like to discuss (or drool) over convent architecture, please check out another yahoo group I own:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sacredconventarchitecture/

I added "sacred" to the name because too many people--including Catholics--have lost that sense.

I have just put the gorgeous golden choir of the Clyde, MO, Benedictines on the homepage.

All of our SOLC Foundations will be having more traditional structures for their convents/monasteries. The only exception will be the Sisterhood of St. Genesius, who will be based in Los Angeles (Hollywood), working with the motion picture industry. Their convent and church will have to be built with major earthquakes in mind.

Blessings,
Gemma

Oh, and how about:

Brothers in Iowa!

I came across this too: Christ the King Seminary, La Crosse, Wisconsin
A hypothetical proposal for a new American seminary for the Institute of Christ the King, Sovereign Priest by Matthew Alderman. There are great architectural renderings! They should do it!!!
