Democrats Win Control Of House

"From sea to shining sea, the American people voted for change," declared Rep. Nancy Pelosi, the hard-charging California Democrat in line to become the nation's first female House speaker.
"Today we have made history," she said, "now let us make progress."

"...now let us make progress." ???
Thing is... I don't think we will be seeing any progress.

By early Wednesday, Democrats had won 221 seats, enough to control the House, and were leading for another 13, which would give them 234. Republicans, who hold 229 seats in the current House, won 181 and were leading in another 20, which would give them 201.

What's ahead for the next two years? Not new legislation so much as investigations, subpoenas, hearings etc. Washington will be as effectively paralyzed as it was during President Clinton's impeachment trial. And, let us remember that it was in that incubator that Osama bin Laden was able to plan the 9/11 attacks.

what progress are you talking about?

I mean we have two prolife justices, but they can't change that. What other progress have we made prolife wise?

Partial birth abortion ban.

I'm not that afraid yet. Anything the House passes must go through the Senate and Oval Office first.

Your're right, there wasn't much pro-life progress at all. The partial birth abortion law was destroyed. Bringing prolife justices onto the supreme court caused filibusters and political damage.
Yeppers. Throw out the political party that only make 8" of progress so we can give more power to the party who defeated outlawing partial births and almost defeated the pro-life justices. This is going to be great. Now the pro-abort party is going to have the Chairmanship of the Judicial Committee. At least we won't have to worry about a filibuster blocking voting on the next Justice. A pro-life judge isn't going to make it out of Committee review.

The good news is, illegal immigrants don't have to become legal and the small farmers can continue to pay them $2 an hour picking vegetables. At least they pickers won't need the money because they can get free healthcare, scholarships, welfare, and subsidized housing.

The question was, "what progress can they reverse?" guys.

They can't remove the justices

The partial birth ban is in front of the Supreme Court so they can't do anything about that.

Oh and Jas what philibusters happened? or are you just mindlessly ranting?

also as far as illegals, the democrats are right on board with PRESIDENT BUSH'S plan of a guest worker program.

Wasn't there a link to a website that posted 50 different things W did or tried to do for the pro-life movement? Not to mention what he accomplished by keeping Kerry out of office--we could have plan-B pill on shelves, higher taxes and more of the taxes going to fund abortions, massive funding of embryonic stem cell research, euthanasia widely available, a Supreme Court that will vote pro-choice every single time for the next fifteen years, massive and a guy convincing 300,000,000 people that it's possible, even okay, to be both pro-choice and Catholic.

Edit: They don't need to reverse anything to hurt the unborn.

Ok first off, we DO have the plan B pill offered over the counter.

Second of all, Kerry is 04. He's never going to be a political threat again.

The only salient point you bring up is embryonic stem cell research. However Bush still has veto power.

The dems cannot remove Justices. They cannot repeal anything that goes before the Supreme Court. And to be honest, they are going to be focused on figuring out an exit strategy for Iraq. The message is loud and clear that this slap around of republicans is a message about the war, pure and simple.

I think folks are getting rather Chicken Little about the election results.

Either that or we're just a little chicken...

I'm more concerned about not getting that next pro-life justice on the bench. Either we sneak an honest pro-lifer past them or we pray for the conversion of someone currently on the bench...of course, both would be good, too...

Texas didn't vote for change except in the district 22 house seat (DeLay's seat) that had a write-in candidate who campaigned for a whopping 2 months. Texas kept the Republican Governor, Lt. Governor, Atty. General, and U.S. Senator (though she is pro-abortion).

I am very disappointed on hearing that some good Christian people refused to vote, simply out of protest, because of the lack of leadership by the Republicans.

CatholicAndFanatical

well although I argued and debated with alot of you on a previous thread I voted for life..too bad it didn't help.

I just think people are tired of this war and tired of the way things were being ran. I too am concerned about the pro-life issues.

But im listening to a radio show now and they are talking about there are going to be alot of investigations and court sessions going on.

That, I pray, will be their focus..investigate for the next few years or more until the next election. that way nothing gets touched.
Big hope I know..but still.
