Veritas
+ Just watching a special on EWTN about Stonyhurst and its roots -pretty impressive. The Jesuits, which seem good here, made me wonder about how the Jesuits (with notable exceptions), have become so fruity of late... they historically were founded specifially to be obedient to the pope and have been such a powerhouse of orthodoxy. Anyone know? St. Edward Campion -Pray for us!

Nathan
I don't know. But the liberal makeover of the Society of Jesus (as with many other religious orders) seems to coincide with the Vatican II years and the "new spirit" that it produced. The pre-Vatican II Jesuits and the post-Vatican II Jesuits are almost like two different entities.
cathoholic_anonymous
The Jesuits seem to be a mixed bunch. The church that my parents attend is run by the Society of Jesus, and there is usually a different priest saying Mass every Sunday. (I think there are about ten or eleven Jesuits living in that house.) There is one who is so arch-conservative that he seems to be teetering on the brink of out-and-out sedevacantism. There are a couple who seem to be diametrically opposed to him in everything. The others are just normal. (Well, as normal as it is possible for a priest to be... )
