electricdisk
Joan of Ark (w/ Ingrid Bergman) - not the remake (the Messenger) Song of Bernadette - excellent. Boys Town - Great. Top 50 Catholic Movies of All time: ABSTRACT: The best religious films, and therefore the best Catholic films, convey the great truths of Christianity implicitly rather than explicitly. This list consists primarily of films that deal with Catholic characters, Catholic society, and the Bible in ways that are not hostile to the Church. Most of them were made by Catholic directors. (my note: Not sure why North-By-Northwest is on this list) -- guesses anyone? http://www.adherents.com/movies/mov_catholic_top50.html
valley
What about Lillies of the Field? Who could forget about Sidney Poirtier teaching the german nuns how to sing: Aaaaaamen Aaaaaaman Aaaaaamen, amen, amen. Or The Rookie. Nothing like a devotion to St. Rita. Good movie. Good movie. wow that's my favorite blk&white movie!... but weren't those German nuns racist? Edward Norton was amesome in "Keeping the Faith." Norseman82
Even though the movie had a lot of violence in it, "Above the Law" portrayed the priests and nuns heroically. Besides, it was filmed at my secondary parish here in Chicago, so I'm a little biased....
BLAZEr
wow that's my favorite blk&white movie!... but weren't those German nuns racist? Edward Norton was amesome in "Keeping the Faith." Racist? What! Now I have to go and watch it again. I thought they treated him that way because he was a man . . . sheesh . . . I miss all the big stuff in movies. BLAZEr
Ok maybe I am remembering the wrong movie. Is that the one where the scene shows her flailing around and all of a sudden getting the Stigmata. That's the right movie . . . she gives herself the stigmata . . . seriously . . . you need to watch that again . . . it's one of the most anti-catholic movies ever. socalscout
That's the right movie . . . she gives herself the stigmata . . . seriously . . . you need to watch that again . . . it's one of the most anti-catholic movies ever. That's why I quoted it in my sarcastic list earlier in this thread. Someone questioned why I did not like it so I wanted to verify. Thanks DOGMA, STIGMATA, AGNES OF GOD, GODFATHER III, THE THORNBIRDS, 40 DAYS and 40 NIGHTS, PRIMAL FEAR All perfect examples of....... carp. (can I say that on here?)
