valley
I have been on a _A Man for All Seasons_ kick lately, and I got to wondering about what movie portrays Catholics the best. I would say _A Man for All Seasons_ (the original one, with Paul Scofield) wins hands down. Mel Gibson's portrayal of Hal Moore in _We Were Soldiers_ is great. _Beckett_ is worth mentioning too. Richard Burton got the idea of finding peace and honor in doing the right thing right for Thomas a'Beckett. _The Song of Bernadette_ is also outstanding in regards to sactity and suffering. Any thoughts? I think that Robert Bolt's play is a masterpeice and shows more understanding of Catholicism and respect of heroism than I have seen since (Mel Gibson being the obvious exception). Kilroy the Ninja
I thought of "A Man for All Seasons" as soon as I read your question.
Pio Nono
JMJ 1/14 - First Wednesday Man, I LOVE A Man for All Seasons (I'm reading it now). In addition, I think Alfred Hitchcock's I Confess does a wonderful job of portraying the sanctity of the confessional. Yours, Pio Nono

Ash Wednesday
X-Men 2 was alright Nightcrawler! Aww he's such a sweetie....I like him! :D (almost as much as Wolverine) hehehehehe.... As far as modern day non-religious movies go, Sister Act is pretty good. I can't think of anything else right now. Maybe I'll think of more after my coffee sinks in. (can I say that on here?) wow you almost got me good with that one. Especially when you said the Thornbirds...ouch. Like that movie helps portray Catholics correctly. You might as well add The Order on there with the rest.
