Are you kidding Hughey!? My cousin went on a trip with his government class to Washington, they found narcotics on the bus. The teacher, after finding the drugs, exclaimed to the kids to never tell their parents. Thankfully, my aunt found out from a friend's son.

This of course is only one example, I really don't want know any of the others.

:ohno: That's horrible.

My school (public school in high school) was VERY strict about drugs. Punishment was a sissy term for what happened to kids caught with drugs at my school.

Hughey you are a riot.
But even though we did have drugs at the school if you were caught then you had better hoped your parents were willing to homeschool you because they kicked you out! And many of the other schools won't take you in this area.
It happened to my neighbor last year.

Yes there are some kids who dont take advantage of homeschooling. I personally miss the one-on-one I had with my mom, But I knew that I would have to drift away from that sooner of later when I went to college.

The idea is that everyone has their choice. Some dont have other advantages as the alternatives. There prolly will never be a set way to school your kids perfectly. We just need to do the best we can with the time we are alloted.

Homeschoolers, also need to not get up on their soapboxes, and if they are already are on them, need to get down because, we aren't the elite in education, then again neither is the public school system. Bragging only leaves room for massive failure. As homeschoolers we should be humble and quiet. ( I'm not saying anyone here is, I have just seen alot of braggers and It may not always work out the way we planned it to.)

Some parents may want to homeschool their kids but, in a day in age when both spouses have to work to make ends meat there is really nothing they can do.

I think the important thing too is that parents are made AWARE of what goes on at school. Sometimes I think parents go on completely clueless as to what happens with their child at school. Some kids are very two-sided. They are completely different people at school and at home.

[size=1]Absolutely! Once I started at private high school after home schooling, I probably went through the most traumatic time of my life. I dont think I can even describe the pain I had gone through. And to even hold up under all the stress it brought on me, I had to change into a COMPLETELY different person. It was so hard, and I was never really happy in high school until I realized what had happened to me, and I chose to go back to who I was, and made different friends. But I do believe that it was the strong focus of religiouse education throughout my home school years that helped me bounce back from those times to make a change.

Though I will admit that early high school was the worst for me, home school did isolate me from a lot of things. Things that came to shock me when I went to private school.

It was a VERY hard transition, and I think it will continue to hurt me for the rest of my life.

And the worst thing about it is that my parents have NO idea to this day what happened to me. I couldnt even talk about it without bursting into tears, I still cant.

Indeed. So how do you feel? I dont believe I have seen your post on this?

I feel that you are a well balanced individual, be it in spite of or because of you homeschooling. You have intelligent and well thought out responses.
I feel that everything should be taken into consideration: God made each and every person so marvelously different that parents and teachers both need to pay attention to those little "special" things and educate accordingly. Perhaps each system has its benefits but it also has it's deficits that need to be taken into consideration. There is no right solution except the one that you create for yourself.
In this case it is subjective.

Being the very naive child that I was in private school, my transition to public school in high school was very difficult for me too. I did not bounce back quite like you did. It took me almost all of high school to figure out what I was supposed to be doing with myself. It was hard, but I survived. And I'm stronger for it. And I appreciate the hardships because without them, I highly doubt my faith would be where it is today.

Ladies! Ladies! Would you welcome some humble wisdom from an old mom taking a break from housework?

Think Ladies!! Think about what you have both described!

Transition from grade (or middle ) school happens WHEN??

Ah-Ha! right about age 13/14 right?

whether you are coming from homeschooling to private school, Catholic school to private school, public school to private school, public to public, private to public, public to HS, etc etc

YOU WERE A TEENAGER IN TRANSITION!!!!

So,...that means a)whacky hormones b)surge of fitting in crisis c)??do I like myself?? d)PMS need I say more e)acne f)puberty and all the joys of it

OK, Ok, so the timing is also a HUGE factor. And we don't get a 'do over' ....

All school options are fraught with 'issues', because the time of life is fraught with issues. Yes, folks with handguns in their lockers is bad, maybe homeschooling in that district would be better, but on the whole there are ups and downs to any choice during this time, but HEY the time of life is AWFUL for 99% of people, just ask folks my age if they would like to go back (NO THANKS! I WILL TAKE THE CROWS FEET and SAGGING BODY FOR $200, Alex!)

Just my humble observation. Talk amongst yourselves.....

Oh, and BTW, thank you all for prayers for my son!! :)

 Too funny.

I have noticed that nowadays the hard times start a lot earlier. Kids are less naive in their younger years these days. I know 6 yr. olds that are immersed in the culture of death. It's awful.
