uruviel
Just remember that God knows your heart. If your purpose is to send your kids out at night to expose them to the evils most common on this night, then obviously it's a bad thing. If its so that they can have fun dressing up and get some free candy (undoubtedly with a toothbrush or two thrown into the mix), then there should be no harm in it.
Yes but I doubt the person would be ignorant to NOT know that there are evil things going on in Halloween, there are evil basis to the holiday, it was created for a satan day, I'm not blaming anyone so don't get defensive. You know where halloween came from, you know it's evil, you know there is allot of evil going on on Halloween, and you are going to send your children outside at night to get free candy? That just sounds wrong, because whereas your intentions for your children may not be horrible and evil, your intentions and their intentions may be innocent but just the mere fact that you know what Halloween is about, and your putting your children in it. I personally despise halloween, I hate it. I would never send my children out at night dressing up as killers and dead people, that just doesn't sound very healthy for the children, I would never want my children to have anything to do with that day. Whereas almost all kids that go trick or treating and dressing up and party have innocent intentions, it is a day for evilness, so why would you celebrate it? I don't know I'm not 100% clear on the matter but in my view, I think that halloween has an evil basis and I think allot of actions that go on around the world on halloween are evil. suuran
I think there is a place in the world for thrills and chills...a good story needs a good villain, after all, and death and evil are realities of our world. They shouldn't be fixated upon or glorified, of course, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be dealt with in the realm of imagination. That's how I really see Halloween--it can be like the Mexican Day of the Dead, a chance to acknowledge the real sorrows and even evils of our world, seen in light of Jesus Christ. By dealing with them in an imaginitive form, we're better able to face them in reality. And, of course, costumes and such don't even have to be scary...just imaginitive. I think dressing up as saints is a pious custom, and I would never discourage a kid who wanted to do it, but I wouldn't discourage a kid from wanted to dress up as Darth Vader either. Honestly, I think saint costumes are...a little boring. There's only so many habits and miters to go around. Here's an article from www.decentfilms.com which I thought was great: Horror, the Grotesque, and the Macabre: A Christian Appraisal. He's talking more about horrorific movies and such than Halloween per se, but I think it's a good discussion on the place of scary stuff. Warning: The article includes references to horror films and at least one perversion which might disturb the peace of some. Discretion suggested. Jabberwocky
I love watching the kids that come to our house. The best costumes of this year: a nun, a pirate cheerleader, and a cement block. One little boy came in a skirt and this girl who came up to the door with him looked at him with this disgusted look on her face and muttered, "He's wearing a DRESS??" and the boy turned around, looked at her, and said, "No, this is a SKIRT!" There was also a pack of geek skateboarders who came to our house twice...
uruviel
wait wait wait..... I have never heard of such a creative halloween costume as such: a cement block. I must admit that though I dont like the practice of dressing up for halloween, a cement block is... awesome.
Jabberwocky
He was actually kind of like a section of a cement-block-wall. He was wearing a gray suit and had these cardboard boxes painted like gray cement blocks around his waist, on his arms, and one on his head. Reaching for the candy was a bit of a feat, but it was one really awesome costume.

uruviel
I'm sorry, I did read some of those websites in the links. I understand halloween, but I meant that people have changed the meaning of it into satan's day. Allot of people don't think of it as that, but allot of people use it for evil purposes, I just don't find it a good idea to be celebrating in a day where we know that so much evil is taking place. Do you agree that halloween was made evil by some people, and is still considered that by them too? I may have said in my last post that it was started as a bad day, I'm sorry for the misinterpretation, I was meaning to imply that it has been changed into something different. Am I making sense?
