What about provisions to supply dead-beats with IDs for free? Would that make you happy?
Why? Referendums clog up the elections process, and eliminate the whole basis of the Republic.
We're a republic. We're also a democratic republic.

Mayve you should take a civics class before spouting off again.

Dead-beats? You mean people working minimum wage jobs are all dead-beats? That's lovely. It's an excellent display of Christian charity towards the less fortunate.

Referendums don't clog up anything - they give people the right to express opinions that aren't being expressed by one of the two dominant parties.

We're not a democratic republic, genius. That's a term made-up by communist dictators to sound like they're not communist dictators. Here, read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_Republic

Ah yes, if it comes from Wikipedia, it might as well come with an imprimatur as well!

Well, I figured if I'd just told you that it's a term made up by communists, you might not believe me. So I gave you an article. The US has never referred to itself as a Democratic Republic. In fact, the term Democratic Republic doesn't even make any sense. It's a nonsense buzzword.

No, by dead-beats I mean people who are unwilling to improve thier lives and would rather sit home and eat Doritos than get a real job.

Of course, you didn't answer the question.

They do clog up the election process. A national referendum is unconstituional for a reason--it violates the whole idea of a republic.

Try a source that won't get your Political Science paper tossed into the shredder.

How about you do something academically honest and back up your claims with sources. Show me a political science source that describes the US as a democratic republic. Better yet, show me one where it claims the term democratic republic actually has any real meaning. I know backing up your statements is something you're unaccustomed to, but try it, you might like it.

You're the one that brought up a source that not a single acedemic discipline accepts.

You're the one who claimed the US is a "democratic republic" and then suggested I take a poli sci class. Go on, prove it. Except you can't, because you were wrong, and you're unwilling to admit it.

I never once said I was unwilling to admit I was wrong. I merely am asking that you do not bring uncitable sources to the table.

BTW: What difference does the terminology matter?
