Is this going to be a really open discussion, or another one where orthodoxy is a requirement? I tried to get into the POLITICS of Vatican religous orders in another thread, but it went "poof" when we got things going... I highly suspect that these orders cannot be discussed outside the frame of the good that they have done.

The problem with the type of debate that you want is that usually your major goal is to point out every little thing that could possibly be construed as bad, no matter how out of context. Who would want to debate with someone who is so hellbent on the "dark side" of everything anyhow? We all acknowledge that the majority of organizations in the world have a few wackos who give the whole a bad name, but there's really no reason to harp on it over and over again. Very rarely have I seen you in any debate where you weren't the doomsayer of the particular person/group in question. I have been hoping and waiting for this to change, but, so far, I'm still waiting.

Oh Hyper, I have been resisting asking to join the Back Alley since I suspect it won't be very edifying for me, but you are making it sooooo difficult!!!!

Grin.

Hey, I'm NOT the one doing mortification and wearing the Celice.

The numeraries [not fringe, but top dogs in OD] are.

Sorry. When there isn't good stuff to notice, I won't notice it.

Grin.

Hey. I didn't even get warmed up on OD, and I just don't have the heart to really do the SofJ right.

Seems you are doing a lot of grinning about pointing put bad things.

And there are good things to point out, you just don't do it.

so what's the deal, bring on the debate if you want to debate - that's why I started the thread.

And I've been meaning to ask what's the deal saying 'grin' all the time; say something funny and I'll laugh.

Thanks Blazer btw, great story.

Actually I almost NEVER get angry on threads.

I've been online since 1989, and on discussion boards since almost the very first day. So, with that in mind I know flareups happen, and life goes on.

No one thread determines anything anyway. It is in longevity that credibility is established most of the time.

And in clarity of thought.

My *job* here on this site is to be the "Loyal Opposition" that is a fellow Christian who thinks that the Catholic Church is a pretty great organization, gone astray in some area's over time...

BUT.

My real LOVE in Catholic anti-apologetics, is not in scripture wars, but in the current PRACTICE of things. What gets done, what societies do, the politics, the power struggles, the finances. That sort of thing. That is where my interest lies most of the time.

Some others work the theology issues, others come and run out.

I learn from all the threads, I just notice that you guys can dish it pretty good, but when some quirks become the topic, then the hackles come up fast.

Hey, defending the history of the Catholic Church is fun, you have good points, and bad points, like everyone else.

Just allow for those in opposition, to have some freedom to GO INTO why most Protestants call you a cult, hones [i don't, you know that, they do] and the charge of "cult" doesn't arise from history, doctrines so much, and proof texts. It is in the way the Catholic Church is seen in practice, that is where Protestants generally point fingers. And that is where you need some help in your apologetics work.

You need to understand that this is really your biggest obstacle in the real world, not the written word, 99% of the world won't wade through the Ph.D materials you so dearly love. You need to get better at a defensive mechanism to counter the PERCEPTION issues, and if you can't take them on here, how do you take them on in the real world?
